How long do you keep songs in your “crate” until you take them out?
I tend to shop on beatport rather often however I have amassed a significant amount of tunes that I still have yet to purchase from several months ago (Feb is the earliest) and I was wondering how long should I realistically keep a song in my shopping cart until I just need to skip on it?
I’ve always had this struggle because I always want to play to newest tunes but I have a tendency to like way too much music
It’s not about how long your should keep them in the crate, but how often you should go through them and cull the ones out you really don’t want. If you add stuff on a weekly basis maybe you should take stuff out on a bi-weekly basis.
Add whenever the fancy takes me, but I never buy any track that isn’t a stone cold “I GOT TO HAVE THIS”. Ruthlessly cull the list, come back to it a week later and cull the one’s that don’t pass the “OMGMUSTHAVE” test.
That way your collection increases in quality instead of slowly diluting with “meh” tracks.
I do like the hold cart and wishlist of BP and Juno respectively.
Often I build playlists kinda on the fly a few days or week before a gig.
Some are like Fatlimey says OMGMUSTHAVEs others are man i dig but can’t play here or there. Some are WTFWUZITHINKIN and get deleted outright.
Gotta a agree with what Limey said. I almost never buy a tune the first time I hear it. Usually I listen to it a few days later and if i still like it then I buy it.
I got a 2- 500gig external drives, and each one is saved as their on collection within Traktor, so it’s just loading the collection I’m going to be spinning.
I rarely purge my tracks, I mainly keep adding to it.
I spin mostly 80’s new wave (cheesy i know) so im usually adding, instead of deleting. Plus i hate it when I get asked for a 80s song and I have it at home and not on my dj laptop…example from this weekend 99 luftballons by Nena
I usually dont play mobile gigs and this is the reason why…I dont like playing cheese. I mean, Ill play Prince and Wham…but I have to draw the line somewhere…
but 99 red balloons is better than Wham! eeeewwww reminds me why I was into breaking when Wham were around infact I thank the lord i found decent music during the 80’s!
