How Long? From Bedroom to the Clubs

It only took me a few months before I was doing mobile gigs (corporate parties, fundraisers, highschool dances) But I did that for almost 2 years before I got into any club gigs.

That made me almost choke on my drink

about 5 years from the day i opened traktor 3 to getting my first residency

My friend called me:

-Hey I just received my bcd 3000, want to come and help me map it, because I dont really know how to map it and what functions and such I want/need.
-Sure why not, shouldn’t take long
4 hours later.
-Well that should be it
-Thanks man!

4 days later he is playing a 4 hour set in one of the biggest clubs in my city, maybe 400 people that night. He wasn’t playing on the main stage but a smaller one, must be the fastest transition from bedroom->club.

Since i tried mixing it took me 2 years sparingly in bedroom and occasional house parties until i got paid gig night at a club (lounge thou, but still a job). But when i introduced a friend of mine (a DJ crew colleague now) to this world it took him just 2-3 months until he got the same job i started with. It all came down to this very site, because thats where i foung 90% of my basic DJ knowlegde (excluding music ofc). Learning a fellow DJ was that much easier, basicaly i knew how to effectively shrink these 2 years of finding basics into brief 2-3 months. Gl hf :sunglasses:

Very similar to Chris, about 4 years before we got a “paying” gig. we stopped playing house tho so more limited with the opportunities for the moment :stuck_out_tongue:

was he any good? haha what a champ

Want me to be honest?

First of all you could bearly hear him as the music from the main room was fucking loud that night lol. And to answer your question, no he wasn’t :stuck_out_tongue:

haha that’s expected, but still he had the balls to do it so quickly, I wouldn’t play at a club unless I was fully confident.

Playing a club in that short time does take balls, heck I still get nervous playing for 400+ people. I have only been getting paid to dj for around 9 months now though

It was about 4 months till I got booked for a small venue. It was the first slot and it was unpaid. I guess it was like an audition. After they booked me the next weekend for a better slot that included pay and it went on from there.

Thats a trip to see that a lot of dj months to get a gig at clubs. I guess for many dj’s that started on vinyl & even cd’s had a harder time to get gigs.

They had a saying back in the day called, “Paying Your Dues.”
I still need to know where to send my check or money order…do they accept paypal.

started bedroom DJing since I was 12. I started getting serious about djing when I was 15 as I started practicing more and messing around with different software. I’m 16 now and just got my first club gig 4-5 months ago
