I was a chorister in a Cathedral choir, and last May I failed my ATCL on trombone by 2 marks (gutted)

But yeah, i can read music - play piano, sing, bass, guitar etc ( pretty average at most of them though!). I play the trombone pretty well, touring with my band (in a very english band geek way) to Hong Kong on Wednesday to open their New Year! going to be interesting..

I have been scratching records & beat juggling since 1996. I got a recording arts degree in 2003. I understand song theory and signal flow in any professional studio. As far as reading music I understand EGBDF & FACE. I can play London Bridge on the keys and beat guitar hero (on easy).

hahaha. Thats an achievement right there…

But seriously, I have confidence in you. Go give guitar hero another shot, you hit that up on expert in no time!

Hey! I can play guitar (or I used to be able to) and I can NOT get a grasp on Guitar Hero. But I will sing in Rock Band all day! lol.

I read music to a certain extent. I started out on piano before quitting in grade 6 to play guitar ever since, so i largely read tab more than anything these days but i still remember how to read standard notation and all the theory that went along with it.

Its def been useful in terms of production i’d say. Not totally necessary i dont think, but its a great base to know how music theory works. More so than anything its studying song structures and the parts of songs that has been the most useful.

third year composition major
4 semesters basic theory plus form and analysis, orchestration, 16th century counterpoint, and post-tonal theory, for a grand total of eight.

haha i used to be able to when i used to play trumpet.. back in primary school and beginning of highschool… but then i discovered house music.. tried to play funky trumpet tunes with basic house songs (daft punk) and then discovered the old logic before it was gay and could only be used on even gayer macs :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile: j/j

now if you gave me a sheet of music i would look at you strange and then start humming a tune :slight_smile:
