Let me first introduce myself. My name is Magnus and I have been into DJ’ing for about a year and a half. I started with the Behringer BCD3000 and then the DJTT VCI100 but I realized I liked CDJ’s more.
I am a Mac user.
So I’m wondering how I should organize my CD’s. If I burn 10 tracks of the same key in itunes there is no space for the key and bpm on the cover i print for the folder. The other alternative is just writing on the disc and one song per disc. So like Song title at the top. Key at left, bpm right and artist name at the bottom. But then in itunes it doesn’t show what songs I have burned or not and it’s annoying to create a playlist everytime I have to burn a song.
What would you guys recommend for me to do? I like option one the most if I could get it working due to the fact I don’t like wasting.
This is one of the crappiest things about cdjs if you use cds with them and not a jump drive or DVS.
Here are the basics, I’ve been using cdjs for years (all pioneer models):
1- Burn slow, 4x is what i do.
2- Burn constant bit rate tracks only.
3- Wavs sound weird and I still don’t get why, 320 mp3s work great.
4- Organize by how much you can keep on one disc and make a duplicate, A AND B of the same disc.
5- I personally burn by date and genre - filling each disc, ie - DNB - 01-A and DNB 01-B.
After about four years I finally said screw it and picked up traktor and now use that with cds since it makes organizing 10x easier and no time to burn discs and print labels. serato works great with cdjs too.
I’ve never had a problem with burn speeds or bit rate really, but i don’t really have anything less then 320 kb.
I burn everything as an audio CD as some cds out there don’t take mp3 cds

I do something along the lines of this:
1)Burn CD as an Audio CD
2) Go into word and write down all info I want:
CD title such as Housey mousey, then the date.
1)-Track - Artist - remix - Key
2) " "
3) so on and so forth
3) Print out and put into CD wallet.
4) Write the Title and date on CD
How do you make sure the sheet you make in word fits the cover?
Also is there anyway I can export the text of an iTunes playlist so I can copy paste?
How do you guys know if your tunes are burned or not?
unfortunately I know no way of exporting the text. I just type it out as I burn.
As for length it a little bit of trial and error, but I keep my font for the actually track listing at 10 point and use normal times roman. For the post part everything fits without issue. THen just cut and stuff in.
And wat do you mean how do you know? You just burned the cd. It should have your tracks on it. If you are doubtful play it on a cd player or back in your comp.

You should try multiple ways to organize your music . Make some cd’s with 5 tracks , some with 10 tracks . You could even try with 1 track. You have to find the one that works best for you. I started by making 10 tracks per cd , but ended up doing 1 per cd even if i didn’t like the idea (way easier to sort music this way). Worst case scenario , you wasted a few cd’s .
You could even write tags on a paper in different colors (example : red for house , green for techno , blue for progressive …) .
I guess the only advantage thw cd-rw has is that it’s rewritable ? Not sure if every single dj cd player will recognize it thought . Better sticking with normal cd-r since they work with everything.
