in operator i would do it this way.

chained algorithm (each consecutive oscilator modulates the first0
2 oscilators, both sine waves
OSC A full sustain envelope.
OSC B Coarse 2, around -12db volume. This is the trick, try a percussive kind of evelope on this oscilator
short atack, decay at around 404ms, and very low level of sustain.

modulating the volume on OSC B will give you a more metallic sound.

then, youll have to polish, compress, etc. but that is the basic thing.
in FM8 it will be fairly similar.

With that preset you are close to Danny Daze’s Bass, add a transient designer and some EQ.
