Hello fellow DJs,
Just wanted to share something I recently built in my free time, something I’ve always wanted to have but it was always near-impossible to find.
A simple, minimal music player for my local FLACs and WAVs but with a waveform seeker and BPM analyzer. And something that looked like it was designed in this century. I had some free time recently so I decided to build it myself.
It’s called Playhead and you can download it at playheadapp.com. It’s completely free and open source.
It’s still in beta. Expect bugs, a lack of features, and lackluster performance. It is available on macOS, Linux and Windows; although I’ve only had the chance to fully test it on macOS. I’ll do some testing and bug fixing for Windows and Linux in the upcoming days though.
The app has an updater built-in too, so you’ll be getting updates quite frequently!
Could this be useful for track prep / promo folders / reference listening before importing into Rekordbox or Serato?
Please let me know your thoughts if you get a chance to play with it, and if you have any feature requests I’d be happy to add them! (if they make sense!)
