So I got a gig hosting a radio program on a youth network in Melbourne! I will be mixing it up between myself and various local guests and we will be doing live DJ sets in the studio every Friday night!
I’m pretty proud of myself so I wanted to brag here because I know there would be one or two of you who would dig it!
Ah, answered my own question with a little stalkage - now that you know I expect you to listen in! Don’t listen too hard though, first time on radio, could be interesting haha!
Yeah starting from the 11th of Feb it will be each Friday 8-9pm and yeah I might take you up on that offer. I’ll keep you posted! It would be good to get a fellow techtools member in.
sick dude that’s an awesome slot! I’ve got a mate who does a drive time show on syn but can’t remember what he’s called it.. anyway good luck dude look forward to hearing some chooonz
Mine is going to be mainly Top 40, hip hop, and house. Mainly cause i’m going to be playing on my Universities radio show. I’ll be throwing in some new and unique tunes here and there, but I am extremely nervous.
Wicked, you should try and wrangle some guests in as well. Do a few interviews and add a bit of a different flavour other than your own. That’s what I’m going to do. Hopefully that way I can share the load with some other people plus make a heap of contacts.
I’m guessing this is your first time on radio too? I’m definitely nervous as well, 1 week to go before the first show!
Yeah lol, it is the first time on the radio, as well as really DJing in public. I have done it infront of friends and what not, but not broadcasting it to the “world”.
I’m more nervous about my beatmatching and shit lol. That, and wondering what people will think of the tunes I pick and all that. Jesus.
All that gear and you don’t DJ outside of the bedroom? Man you have to get out there, that’s where the fun is! The performance is the best part of DJing, I love it!!
Will you be actually presenting much on the show, as in talking about the songs or will it be pretty much just you mixing? I’m a little nervous about the presenting side of things, just because I think I sound like a dick when I talk in to a mic, but other than that I’m trying to be pretty chill about it.
Practice Practice Practice!! Get a good set together and practice the shit out of it leading up to the show and don’t try to wing it. That’s what I would recommend, that’s what I will be doing anyway.
I may sound calm and cool about it but I’m pretty nervous, you just have to back yourself with confidence (even if it is fake, forced confidence) - if they are the songs you have picked then you like them - remember, people are listening to you. If they wanted to hear their songs they would put their ipod on.
Haha yeah,
So like I can do whatever I really want to on my show, I can mix the whole time, speak a bit of the time, literally whatever I want to do. Any suggestions as to this?
Yeah same with me, it’s pretty much free reign to do what I want. This is the way I see my show panning out - although it will probably evolve as the weeks go on.
Opening - bit of a intro as to what the show is about and what is coming up in the show.
First set - try to cram as much as I can in to a 25ish minute set.
Guests interview - 5-10 minute chat with the guests for that week, talking about who they are, what they are into, where people can see them etc.
Guest set - the guests will then do their own short set with however much time is left, I guess about 20-25 minutes
Outro - pretty much thank the guests, announce who will be on next week and intro the show after me.
It’s a bit annoying only having 1 hour, it might sound a bit rushed but hopefully having limited time will lead to some great sets made up of lots of little bits of songs. Sort of a mash-up show maybe?
Like I said, it will be interesting to see how it evolves!
Honestly I haven’t thought it out but when I signed up I figured i’d be like “HEY THIS IS DJ COLDFUZION ON CSUF RADIO AND IM IN THE MIX!” then go and mix for an hour.
I know it’s bad, but I hadn’t really thought of anything else.
I’ll try bringing on guest DJs and such as I get a better following and what not, but i’m sure at first there’s no point to it. I gotta see how many people even listen to the college radio station.
That’s awesome TP, congratulations and best of luck with it. Make the most of the opportunity mate and keep looking forward, don’t get too complacent now!
