blah blah I like windows too (actually love win 7 and xp), but find me something with an aluminium case, glass screen. 8 hour battery life, and runs logic for less and I’ll buy it.
Question is, 13 or 15… are core 2 duos outdated on the 13" and now i think about it, is it worth getting the anti glare screen.
Anyone got any ‘essential apps’ for mac you think i should give a try?
I saved myself the cash from buying a 15" and bought a 13", and slapped a solid state drive in it with the differential I saved. Rocks the shit out of my friends 15" Core i5.
I agree that a SSD drive is one of the best performance upgrades you can get a laptop nowadays but he wants to run Logic, so I think CPU power is more important than transfer speed and IOPS.
If he was running traktor then you could prob run it on a netbook.
If the laptop is going to be used primarily for DJ’ing, then a Core 2 Duo model will be more than suitable. DVS don’t really use that much processing power, so it’s really not necessary to get an i5 or i7 model. BUT, if this is going to double as your studio computer, than it would be worth it to get a bigger model with more processing power. If you’re still leaning towards the 13" MacBook Pro, I would think about whether or not you need the FW800 port. If not, then you can save some more money by just investing in a plain ol’ MacBook.
wait, im planning on getting a 13 inch mbp for both DJing and producing, am i doomed for producing? i cant shell out the dough for anything more than the base 13inch mbp
I’m using an entry level MacBook Pro with Logic, Ableton, Native Instruments Komplete, etc - hooked into an external monitor. No problems whatsoever, performs great.
Definitely not “doomed”. The 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo processor will still get you pretty far, but the i7 gives you a supposed 50% performance boost so that’s something you’ll want to take into consideration for a production computer.
I think very few people actually realize that 50% performance gain. Stock up on ram when you get it, but don’t get that ram from Apple. You can find it much cheaper other places.
i just recently got the mbp 13inch and have never looked back. only probs is the size of the hd size. mines nearly full. dont wanna upgrade it as it will void warranty i think.
Thanks guys good food for thought here. I am using this for producing as well. I have a 24" monitor so I’m not too worried about that, will need a powered usb hub for keyboard, mpd32, ext keyboard and mouse and soundcard.
Then i can just plug in dvi port and usb hub and for all intents and purposes its a desktop too.
17" is too big, I’ll need to travel alot (to and from programming lectures - and hopefully gigs )
Looks like 15" is probably the way to go for me at the moment. Just looked at SSD prices - faints. Maybe the next one!
surely there can’t be much difference between a 2.4ghz and 2.53 ghz i5?
