Ipad Compatible Midi Devices / DJ controllers

After spending hours trawling through garbage looking for a “reasonable” exhaustive list of midi devices that are ios7 compatible so - one central repository for iPad compatible controllers, more specifically for controllers that do not mention it in their product blurb but may actually work regardless.

If you managed to get it working - did everything function, what idevice did you use, what connector kit and was there a need for Powered Hubs etc …

I have successfully used the following controllers with an iPad and the DJ Player app via the Apple camera connection adapter. I was using a powered hub since I was also using a soundcard, but I think they would all work without if connected directly to the iPad.

Numark dj2go

Akai LPD8

Behringer CMD Micro

Good start - Could you elaborate on which iPad as well as it appears the iPad Air for example draws more power while charging that other iPads and can knock out midi devices.

iPad 2

I’ve used a vci-100, a midifighter and a midifighter spectra, all through a powered hub, on an iPad mini2

DDJ-SB anyone ?

The Midi is apparently class compliant, how about the sound card ?

Great thread!

Here is my question, since the new Audio 2 and Kontrol Z1 from NI are both Class Comp. Has anyone used them with DJ Player?

Also, I have been looking for a a usb B to thunderbolt cable ( no adapter) but I have had little luck…does anyone know if it exists?? Can these be made?

Thanx!!!

You mean Lightning as opposed to thunderbolt I assume ? So far as I know these are not, and will not be made available due to the licensed chips required on the Lightning side of things and Apple being very selective on third parties they license them to.

Is here DJ software on the ipad that supports mapping class compliant controllers then?

In theory my vci300 is class compliant. I will have to test it but I know for sure iPad Traktor won’t speak to it…

Yes, DJ Player and theres a pre-installed map for it as well AFAIK:slight_smile:

Also I just spotted this thingamajig on the Djay page - in conjuction with AvB :expressionless:

DDJ-SB clicking noise from speakers

I recently got the DDJ-SB and was excited to use it with my ipad, but when I connected everything and opened the DJ player app and pressed play, there was this clicking noise and I’m not sure where it’s coming from. I’m using an ipad 2.
