Is there a way to make Technics platter smoother?
Hey guys I recently acquired two technic 1200 m3d’s from eBay and am in love in the vinyl. One turntable works perfect and I have no problems with. But the other one just seems “off” I guess. On the good turntable I apply slight pressure and record stops and so do my butter rugs and everything is quiet and smooth. On my other turntable though when I apply enough pressure just to just stop the record from rotating it’s extremely loud like the slipmat is being rubbed wrong and a bit more resistance.
Anyways what I’m getting at is there a way to possibly make my platter smoother so it will be quiet and more fluid?
What I’ve tried so far is switching out slipmats with both platters, same problem persist. Switched platters with turntables and symptoms moved to other turntable so it’s got to be something with the platter.
Bonus: I’ve got a bonus question as well, on my “off” turntable the platter looks like it sits a little uneven very slightly higher on the bottom, it doesn’t effect the playing of the record it just effects my OCD. I cleaned out the spindle and there was a little dirt but other than that I cant figure out what it could be. I thought maybe the screws around the magnet could be screwed in unevenly but I couldn’t even unscrew one of them. those suckers are in pretty good.
Anyways if any of you gurus think you may know whats up with my decks your help would be greatly appreciated. As always thanks gents!
