I've got my first gig coming up soon...

@ djwilliams Sounds like a good plan to me! If you have several genre mixes you can give promoters (and fans!) what they want to hear, or what is appropriate to the venue. I’d also make a multi-genre mix to show your versatility and ability to mix between genres.

Thanks mate, I’ve been so busy getting new tunes and sorting out my itunes that I haven’t started even planning my mix(es) yet. I’m gonna try and get them done tomorrow, now I have so many tunes I can’t decide which ones to play!

@wickedsight That reminds me a lot of my beginning days. Those kind of events can suck, but you can learn how to work it.
I have to say though, if people were bugging you constantly you need to do two things: 1)Play something different, completly different, because what you have on blows.
2)Work on your “don’t talk to me, I’m in the mix” face.
I don’t want to be too much of a grouchy old man, but are you such a music snob that you’d rather stop playing than play Shakira? What’s wrong with playing reggaton and dancehall? Have you SEEN how girls dance to that music? If you want to DJ in that venue, play the music people want to hear, not what you want to hear. You can play what you want in your car.

@DJWilliams How about completly different sounds like chill-out electro, hip-hop, latin, DnB, and house? To a person that likes country music for example, all three of your sets would sound similar. Good choice on the multiple short sets though.

 #1 reason to spin top 40!

Don’t you mean only reason? :stuck_out_tongue:

@DJ Nada - I don’t know, my two favourite genres are Trance and DnB, and I also like a bit of House, Dance and subgenres of trance and dnb so I think if I started mixing other genres it wouldn’t be ‘true to me’. Although I do have bits of Hip-Hop and other genres (loads of rock) in my music library.

Ever though about mixing rock? Not to many people actually mix it, that might be an interesting set. I sometimes mix Coldplay with Rihanna, sounds pretty hot…

Yeah, I’ve tried it and pulled it off a couple of times but it seems that 50% of it is impossible to mix due to the nature of the tracks, slower, more vocal songs like coldplay could work better.

Change the tempo up until the point where the sound quality starts degrading or the song starts to sound weird. Once you hit that point, you know you’re trying to mix bpms which are too different. I use the ± 8% setting for Traktors pitch slider and don’t usually go more than half the way up or down ie, 6 or 7 bpm max

ya I think so

we can’t take nature in ur hands

the nature of the music is higher than the tampo

What’s with all this spam?!
