Both?
Get a Turntable setup, and run a DVS software (Traktor Scratch Pro, Serato Scratch Live, Virtual DJ, Torq). That would allow you to play vinyl, and switch it up to play your Mp3’s with a computer when you wanted to as well.
so whats a good turntable brand/model bro? i dnt wana spend more than 500bucks..
i know its not much but its all i got lol
500 bucks, i recommend you to get a midi controller, try to pick up a 2nd hand vestax vci-100 + ni audio 2 dj.
thats the best you can get in your budget range i guess.
yea bro thats what ive been looking at..
are the DJ tech IMix midi controllers any good?
S4! I love mine! I just hate how it can’t be re-mapped unless it’s in midi mode. For the most part the interface is intuitive enough. But I miss being able to press a button and having my effect’s pre-set. The S4 does have that but you can only have one per deck. It’s no biggie, and why I love my S4.
is that the brand bro? whats mapping? i literally know nothing lol
cheers for that!

[/quote]Native Instruments Kontrol S4.
Mapping is basically if you want the song to play when you press play or do something else instead.
but kontrol s4 is kinda not in your budget
its nearly double your budget.
for 500 bucks try to get a vci-100 + audio 2 dj, and i wouldnt buy any dj-tech stuff, they have some nice ideas, but from what ive seen so far quality is lowlowlow. plastic toys basically.

The RMX & Hercules are contender’s as well but still pretty much toy’s compared to the VCI-100. Alas, my friend has an old M-Audio Xponent and he rock’s it all the time. It has a built in sound card (I think) and I think you can find them for dirt cheap compared to the VCI’s. They’re pretty rock solid machines, so it seeems.
Only problem is the price of the S4 is above your price range. Originally when I entered the world of djing (Like a month ago LOL! Sorry for making it sound like ive done this for a while) I only wanted to spend $300 max. I was going to buy a Vestax Djay console from the Apple store. Then my friend who introduced me to this site (who has been Djing for 3 years) sold his entire setup for the S4 and when he showed it to me - I fell in love. So I ended up borrowing $700 from my Dad (which I am in the process of re-paying back right now) so I could pick it up. I hate my assistant manager, but for the S4 its definitely worth it.
jeah torq xponent is an alternative too, but its too plastic for my like
good nonetheless. but if you got that vci-100 you feel like your the man with your 4kg all metal midi controller ![]()
IMHO BigC was right on. Buy some used tables or CDJs (or one of each). Cartridges (needles) can be an addition cost with tables. Better yet, go down to Guitar Center and mess around with everything they have. Get a cheap midi controller so you can figure how they work (Trigger Finger is good as it has mappable faders, knobs, and 16 pads if you want to delve into beatmaking). The problem is there are SO many choices out there now. DJing can be an expensive hobby. I think vinyl is better to learn on just because you can see and feel how you can manipulate the music. Digital has a tendency to take out the learning curve by doing everything for you. Choose wisely![]()
ok sounds good! thanx heaps bro, i just want to get something now so i can start!! lol
cheers
you can start with mapping your keyboard, until you get something
use forum search to find earl-pandas custom keyboard ![]()

ok mad! so i can map the keyboard for the software you mean? or the controller?
your normal keyboard
just go into the options section and ‘‘keybind’’ the keys to the command you want them to do.

btw if you want to start really cheap: get an akai LPD 8 and use this mapping Akai LPD8 and Traktor Pro(All-in-one controls), you’ll still need a soundcard (+headphones) like the audio 2dj to cue but:
LPD 8: ~75$
audio 2dj: 99$ (inkl. traktor LE)
should cover you pretty well imo
thats another good idea, but you should consider that working with a pad controller is a wholy different feeling/style then working with tt+mixer-style midi controller. personal preference tho.
thanks for all the help everyone.
i think ive decided to go for the Vestax Spin, but use it with Traktor Pro. i really wana make my own beats tho, to mix into original tracks. whats some good software for music making?
peace
