Korg Kaoss Pad Quad - Any Good?

Korg Kaoss Pad Quad - Any Good?

I’m itching to get one of these, but I wanted to know if there were any downsides to the product from someone with hands on experience.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers.

you need a mixer with an effect “send and return” to use it on individual channels otherwise it will only work on the master output

Ah I see. Do you know if there are any work arounds if you don’t use a mixer? Otherwise that pretty much kills it for me.

Take whatever your master output is (soundcard) and route it though the Pad.

Sorry, I was talking about being able to use it on individual channels.

The Kaoss Pad takes an single stereo input, manipulates the sound and outputs it, so unless you have some method of

  1. outputting two or more individual channels at will from your software into a send.
  2. routing this sound back to your master mix somehow either with a soundcard, mixer or software

The answer would be no…

There is ways of routing via software so gotta ask whats your current setup - mixer/soundcard/software/controller etc..?

get on your favorite software’s forum and request that they make it possible to route an effect send/return with an in and out of a soundcard. It would be easy to incorporate into any program if the devs wanted it to happen. I have already requested it be added to VDJ’s arsenal, so hopefully it is being considered for VDJ8.

I’ve always just thought these things were silly… Never seen one of them put to any interesting use. I always see local producers who use a lot of hardware using them and it just sounds stupid every time.

I’m using a Fast Track Pro with Traktor Pro 2 at the moment.

The only way I can think that it might work is utilizing 2 different DJ softwares or perhaps Ableton ..as a Send Return system i thought the Fast Track came with Ableton live lite (which will do the trick).

I think your local producers should learn how to use them correctly then :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you ever seen a high-tier producer use one? They’re just a silly piece of kit. Anything they can do can be done significantly better with software.

James Zabiela? Carl Cox? Richie Hawtin?

All those guys use external processors quite a lot to do some incredible things.

edit: And not everyone uses software you know. And you can get hardware which knocks any of traktor’s effects out the water- see the Rodec Restyler, Eventides, etc.

I don’t suppose you could be a bit more specific as to how I would set it up? The Pad came this morning and I’ve tried hooking it up to the Fast Track Pro and I can’t seem to get it to work.
