Just thought I would post to see if anyone had had the same problem as me last night.
Was rocking out at a place in North London when Traktor locked up and the audio window went red. Sound went out, crowd went nuts. Popped open preferences and it said there was no audio device connected.
With a bit of rejigging we got it working and I think it might have something to do with the stock NI audio 8 USB cable.
are you saying you were running the laptop and audio8 off battery power? if so it’s possible the power requirements for the audio8 weren’t meet, and if this happens even briefly its going to act like you don’t have hardware connected.
can u replicate this problem with the laptop pluggin in?
Do you have the Audio 8 Settings Tool running.
I bet if you did you would see massive USB streaming errors.
As Charo says you should use the power adapter for the laptop to prevent usb drop outs.
If the Audio Panel went Red then the soundcard definitely became disconected momentarily . You could try a different USB cable. I hate USB B connectors.
Not heard of the settings tool - need to hunt that out.
The audio panel did go red. I think it must be the USB cable as had similar problem a week or two ago with the power brick connected to the Macbook but thought it might be electrical interference of some sort - think it might be the USB cable.
I concur. Its probably the cable. Get a quality one like…from the store here on this site. There is nothing but quality here. I would get the killer cables and also check that the actual port on the audio 8 is not real loose and shit…but i doubt it unless you been manhandling it.
Pfft, you guys have it all wrong. Things I bring in case of equipment failure:
A full bag of adult diapers
High quality ear plugs
A blind fold
When the equipment fails, put on the adult diapers to prepare the process of shitting yourself. Once the adult diapers are on, proceed to put in the ear plugs and tie on the blind fold, effectively preventing you from seeing and hearing the crowd’s reaction.
Yo karlos what’s the USB streaming errors? Myn allways says 30 odd streaming errors! My sound is perfect, no crackles pops or dropouts etc. Iv always wondered why it says that about the streaming errors? Is that not normal?
does that number go down as you reduce the number of usb devices you have connected?
hoping karlos can pop and in and describe that manager and if i’m correct in assuming that it is part of usb life to have at least some small usb streaming errors (though this doesn’t mean that they effect the audio streaming)
that audio 8 settings tool comes with the drivers, no? that or on a cd that comes with the audio 8.. i can’t remember which. but definitely a must for troubleshooting.
More likely is not using the power adapter. The problem may be temperature. When running on the battery the fan and cpu do not reach their maximum performance… the club is hot, and computers freak out with heat.
