Lead Wire Question: DIY Arcade Mod

I have a question regarding something I’ve seen in guides as necessary materials for a VCI 100 DIY Arcade Mod:

“Lead wires- 16 about 3-4 inches long (can be cut from microphone cable)”

Since DDTT don’t sell the DIY kits anymore I’ve been getting the materials myself but when I posed someone at a hardware store with these specs on what I needed they asked:

What “type” and “gauge” of lead wire do I want. Also, if I wanted shielded or non-shielded?

I honestly have no idea so that’s why I’m posing this to the forums, haha. Hopefully you can give me a hand!

You want about 22-24 AWG wire SHIELDED.
Bigger AWG means smaller wire.

Could you use 18 gauge Lead wires? (300v)
