Looking to Buy a Cheap Mixer to use with Midifighters

My friend and I started out djing with a Numark Omni Control. While I like the Numark because of it’s sturdy and sleek design, I find that it has a lot of features we really don’t need or use since we purchased a midifighter. We are heading to seperate colleges, so i’m letting my friend keep the Numark and i’m going to buy a new mixer. However, I really don’t know what to get, and i’d like to hear what DJ Techtools users use with their midifighters.

My basic requirements for the mixer is that it’s sturdy, works with Traktor well (i’m not very good at making custom maps), a built in soundcard, and under 100 dollars.

Well I don’t think u could do that all for under 100 big ones. I use an x session pro

Do you mean mixer as in external mixer or mixer style midi controller?

Agreed, this is pretty much out of the question, especially with a built-in SC. There are some pretty good Xsession Pro mappings in these forums too. It would require a sound card though.

Here’s what you can do:

Audio 2 DJ - $99
Pyle-Pro PYD715 - $37 on Amazon (looks like a piece of shit but it’s cheap)
-or-
Xsession Pro - I got one for $30 on eBay a few months ago

This is an extremely cheap way to go…

There are few usb mixers from djtech that you can check out. though i can’t guarantee quality.

So I guess 100 dollars is out of the question. Let me rephrase my criteria

I want something similar to the X Session Pro, but I want it to be sturdy and work well with Traktor

Peep the buy n sell here on the forum

I personally would prefer to buy something new

the x session is sturdy and works well with traktor i have no problems with it and i have bashed the thing.

I would take a used VCI-100se in the 350-450 range (as seen in the buy/sell forum) over a lot of brand new pieces of equipment (except the Tiwtch, which I am eagerly saving money for).

Not trying to give “bad” advice, but if I were heading into college right now I would definitely take out an extra couple hundred bucks in student loans for a controller I would use for years. Pay for it in 4 years. If you still have a great controller by then, count it as low interest loan that you used the shit out of in college (I hope )

The VCI does look pretty good. But again, I don’t think i’d use a lot of features on that mixer. I almost never use the jog wheels on my Omni Control as it is (that and i’ve had a really tough time mapping those out for some reason). I think the X Session is a bit limited based on pictures that I have seen, and won’t be a proper fit for my interests.

After thinking about it, I think i’m going to skip getting a midifighter for now (I’m not comfortable using two controllers at the same time right now) and just get a mixer.

I saw that Numark sells the ‘Stealth Control’, which is basically the same thing as I have now but without a soundcard. Am I better off keeping the omni control or buying a Stealth Control with an external soundcard?

I can’t see any point in doing that.

If you’re really short of cash why don’t you get a cheap mixer and soundcard and mix externally:

$170

Would the Numark M1 USB be a good choice?
I actually just discovered it last night, and have heard NOTHING about it, so if anyone is familiar with it, i would appreciate some tips.

it does only cost $100, but i just looked it up quickly, AND YOU CAN’T CHANGE THE CF CURVE. that just boils my piss, especially when some sites call it a “scratch mixer”

To practice at home a DDM4000 will be your perfect choice!
Buy one now and if you don’t play out a lot you can wait and later buy an Audio 2 to play out with external mixing (using the club’s mixer and keeping your ddm4000 at home) when the gigs starts to come…

he did say cheap

x session pro is good, used as a beginner mixer until i saved up enough to get a nicer external mixer

well you get for what you pay, but for now u can look for an uc33, change the fader caps if u want.
