Making a mix more exciting

Making a mix more exciting

Hello,

I am new to dj’ing and i got beatmatching down pretty well…however my mixes just sound as such, songs linked together. I was wondering what do the people on DJ Techtools do to make their mixes more exciting

with what setup are you spinning?

get better music

a very akward one:
Vestax typhoon (Don’t have a lot of money, unfortunately)
M-audio axiom 25 for sampling and such
Stanton Da scratch

and traktor i guess?

well, just try some effects, some looping, some vocals over another beat. get creative!

Im sorry i forgot to add what software.

VIRTUAL DJ pro

Throw some one-shot samples and get creative with mashups.

I feel bad for asking this, but i rather ask and learn, look like a fool for 5 second then hold my djing back. But, When you say mashups you mean the tracks i am using?

yeah, mashup the tracks you got. i dont know what kind of genre you’re spinning, but i sometimes just put a know electro vocal (eg justices dance) over another beat and start mashing (and messing) up these vocals..

Awesome. I assume you also mean that i should grab some acapellas and sample from there…

and i forgot i got a korg kp3

post one of your mixes and the community can jump on board and give you some tips and suggestions mate. welcome to the forums by the way

Thank you for welcoming me. I will work on something right now

I’ll second that

I haven’t even mentioned what type of music mix

Do live mashups, use creative elements (white noise, rock music, samples), and use the new Delay trick on the blog using your KP3.

but if you’re boring yourself with your own mixes, that might be a good starting point.
