Maschine in Traktor

Maschine in Traktor

Hi DJTT!

didn’t know where to post this so i guessed at this section of the forum!

i would like to use my maschine say… in deck D of traktor! but haven’t gotten it working! midi time clock is fine and everything but no audio in deck D coming

my question is how do i route my maschine to play audio in Deck D

thanks in advance!

I’d imagine that you’d need to use a program that would trick traktor into seeing the output of the machine software as an audio source and then setting that as deck D’s input and setting the deck to audio through. Sadly I don’t know such a program.

Why do you want to use a deck for the machine out of curiosity? Do you have more control over volume, eq, effects etc. in traktor compared to machine? I don’t really know since I don’t own a machine but I figured that software would give you better control over it.

What version of Traktor? If it’s S4 here’s a walk through

using maschine to play and trigger samples through deck D!

and no not S4 version mate! but thanks

My version of Traktor Pro has a section on the options that says “Maschine” and you can do all the custom mappings there, I believe. Just set it to be whatever you want there. Does this not work?

What version are you using? Are you talking about Maschine having its own tab in the preferences window or just listed in the Controller Manager tab?

I’d like to be able to route Maschine directly through ‘deck D’ without DA/AD conversion (i.e. direct digital routing) … is this possible?

… largely to solo/cue maschine to headphones while audition/programming Maschine patterns, as well using traktor FX, EQs, filters, faders etc …

I think I mis-remembered, I thought there was a section in the preferences window for it.

I think the Maschine controller can just be assigned like any MIDI controller otherwise, if you want to use it to control Traktor Pro, however to use the Maschine software in conjunction I would just have Maschine to be set to an output of the soundcard that’s not in use (or even the laptop’s default speakers going to a mixer) synced up with the MIDI clock. I don’t know why this wouldn’t work, but I don’t have Maschine, so I can’t really give any specifics.

Sorry about that, I could swear there was a Maschine tab in the options to help with this sort of thing. When you installed Traktor Pro (the version that boasts the Maschine integration) was there a box or something for Maschine like the NI X1?

I didn’t know there was such a thing … does it really exist?

I know I can feed in an analog source into deck d, but I wouldn’t call this ‘integration’ … Specifically looking to make a digital link here …

Sometimes I’m astounded by NIs ability to omit obvious features like this (or functional drivers for S4) …

I mean for something like that, I would stick with syncing it over MIDI, and not worry about the arbitrariness of having Maschine be in a Traktor deck. You know what I mean? In a club, it can still go to a channel in the mixer, and be a deck, of sorts, and you can run Maschine in VST mode and use Native Instruments’ Traktor effects pack they have, and just do that in your program of choice, if you really want those. Although, Maschine should be able to do anything Traktor can in the effects department, going from the overview and the videos.

I’m specifically running a ‘mixerless’ system … that is; mixing everything inside Traktor, using 2 X1s for EQ, fader and transport control, with full control of cuemixes, preview deck, FX and filters assigned to Maschine MIDI control. Simultaneously, I have Maschine synced to Traktor …

The system totally rocks … I can get it to do everything I want … except solo/cue Maschine’s outputs in my headphones …

Just seems a pity there’s no facility to simply route Maschine outputs in Traktor’s mixer … am I missing something?

I know I can do this by going out of Maschine D/A into Traktor A/D … but I’m a digital purist … I like to avoid pointless A/D/D/A conversions in my signal path … it’s a workaround but not really kosher in 2010 IMO … it’s surprising they can’t sort a simple and obvious feature like this out …

hey i am assuming you have found some sort of solution for this a sits been like 2 yearsl lol? I am having the same problem now and I own a Mac. I have the S2 and im trying to route maschine mikro into deck D. I tried to do the aggregate soudncard rotue but could get it to work properly. I know the s2 doestn have enough ins/outs so Im thinking is it easier to get a bigger sound card? what did you end up doing?

You need do install some sort of virtual audio cable software and properly route it from maschine softwer’s output into traktor deck D input. Seen it on youtube once.

if u want to route audio in from maschine and not use as a midi controller (which i think this thread seemed more about in the end) you’ll need to do a few things i think:

  • use soundflower or jackosx to create virtual audio ports (or jack or windows) only need one stereo pair
  • select the virtual audio ports as output for maschine
  • create an aggregate device (builtin on mac or use ASIO4all on win) of your S2 and virtual ports
  • select the aggregate device in traktor (as u can only select one)
  • make deck D a LiveInput deck
  • select the right virtual port for deck D for the aux input

not tried most of that mind u… but have messed with routing audio between traktor and ableton and using aggregate devices

thanks! im gonna play around with this some more. Not gonna stop till I get it. I have both jack and sound flower that I have been playing around with. I have seen the tutorial on traktor bible for the S4 and maschine but didn’t know if I could do something similar in maschine. Basically just want to be able to record my loops and patterns with the tracks Im playing in Traktor.

Do you guys know if this has any negative effect to sound quality/latency if I go down the aggregate sound route?

i’d try soundflower first as it’s super easy to use. i haven’t tried jack on my mac yet tho. aggregating on a pc should make no difference as pc users really have to use asio4all in the first place. i’m not sure what extra latency will be added on mac - probably not much but some. each layer will need to do some buffering i guess. quality won’t be affected since it’s all in the digital domain. i’m currently routing from traktor to ableton and seems fine to me. maybe not ideal if u want to scratch or something, maybe then you’ll notice a bit more lag.

Why use asio4all in preference to the latest device drivers from the manufacturer?

Just output Maschine through the same MOTU audio outputs as Traktor, but I still can’t solo/cue Maschine’s outputs in my headphones or mix Maschine inside Traktor.

I have enough in & outs to cover this by going D/A out and A/D back in but it seems like a joke considering both these apps are made by the same world leading digital audio software developer. I’d like Traktor to recognise Maschine’s outputs or Maschine to recognise active Traktor inputs as selectable output options.

maybe no need with win7 and decent drivers. force of habit for me maybe. does add cool stuff like the aggregation tho.

you have any screen shots of that by any chance?
