so theres a fairly useless button (to me) on the s4 that i think could be repurposed. what if i had the master button (in between SNAP and QUANT) flash with the beat of the master clock, i would find that extremely usefull.
how could i do that. any way to set the brightness of it to 0, then have another controll flash it, (like ean shows how to)
The beat phase monitor output command is one of the only (if not the only) that can replace the native led feedback (actually it doesn’t, both take place but the original feedback is drowned by the blinking).
Just create a s4 user mapping including this command, I suggest you create it 4 times each one assigned to a different decks (so you get most of the time the feedback).
Mad easy. Go to Controller manager. If you havent ever mapped anything for the s4 then you need to select from the Device Type Tab Kontrol S4 default. Then click add select traktor>Kontrol S4>User. Now you have a User Tab to edit. Go to Device type and select Kontrol S4 User. Click add out>output>beat phase monitor. Under device mapping select center>master button. Under assignment click device target or click deck a or b if you want the light to only flash w deck a or b’s tempo. All set
What I’ve done is remap the snap button to the beat phase monitor of Deck A, and the quantize button to the beat phase monitor of Deck B. That way I can easily see if both tracks are in Sync or not (kind of the Torq Xponent way).
What do you think? Useful? Any downsides I might encounter?
I just did it, so I’ve got to test it to see if it fills my needs.
What about the “Deck A” / “Deck C” led in each deck’s display? I like what you said but the Keylock and Master leds are important visual feedback i don’t want to mess with. The Deck A led is a little bit redundant since I have that info in other ways (Blue and white leds above the upfaders, the “Deck C” button above the jogwheel, etc).
What would truly be awesome is to map the White and blue leds above the updaders to show the tempo of each deck/channel. Neat. I’ll try if it can be done.
EDIT: Of course it can be done. I’ll try different options to see what suits best my needs and let you know.
EDIT 2: Here’s the mapping for tempo on channel LEDs:
