Mastering songs

Hey DJ Techtoolers!

I am really into producing at the moment and really getting my flight-hours lately. But at the end of the song, ofcourse it needs to be mastered. Not yet very good at it.

Could you guys give me some pointers to make this remix sound better? Just some general tips and stuff I might have forgotten! Thanks!

Its a difficult process to be honest, lots of tips and tricks, and experience is a huge factor but here you go, this may help http://tarekith.com/assets/mastering.html

what did you use to produce that ?

I think your biggest issue is going to be that the track is already pretty heavily compressed it sounds like, to the point it’s distorting in places. Are you using anything on the master channel of your DAW in this version?

Hey man, this is with FL Studio, using plug-ins like Massive, True Pianos and some other synths and there is some Sausage Fattener on the bass-line.

I used Izotope 5 and tried to master it a bit using the dynamics, imagizer, maximizer. And I always get that problem where my track sounds over-compressed :open_mouth:! But otherwise I don’t hear certain sounds… I am probably doing something terribly wrong in my mixing.

Thanks, checking it out right now!

Here’s some more guides (including a mixdown one) that might help:

Thanks Tarekith! I ran into those a few months ago, but right now I feel i got to the point I could actually understand it and apply it!

How do you like the remix btw? Or is it not your kind of music?

“How do you like my song?” is the one question mastering engineers hate the most  Doesn’t matter what I think, I don’t even pay attention to if I like it or not, I’m more concerned about the sonics and making it sound good regardless.

Hahaha I can defintely believe that, but you are a DJ/Producer yourself right? And you do Track Consulting I see in your sig haha

Yes, I’m a producer too:

The track consulting I do is mostly from an engineering standpoint, helping people with their mixdowns, song structure (sometimes), etc.

Wow listened a bit to one of your latest tracks, really nice man! But that’s a totally different genre than I produce/spin! But I love that downtempo stuff!

Got any tips on getting songs released?

There’s a bunch of different genres on that page, it’s not all downtempo.

Advice for getting songs released? Write good songs and find a label that wants to release them  Or just do it yourself and cut out the middle man.

Yeah saw some breakbeat and stuff in there too!

Haha well that sounds simple haha! How in the name of god does one cut out the middleman? Just start a record company or something haha?
