MF3D and Serato (Independent Deck/Juggle modes, SP6, FX)

<EDIT: Version 2 posted as “MF3d and Serato, version 2”. Please continue disregarding this post…>

Forgive the lack of graphics. Hopefully the attached color scheme helps make things more obvious. This is my first mapping so critique away. I’ve explained some decisions below.

–TILTING–
Tilt Left - SuperKnob 1 on FX unit 1
Tilt Right - SuperKnob 2 on FX unit 1
Tilt Toward USB - SuperKnob 3 on FX unit 1

–SHIFT BUTTONS (The 6 built in ones)–
[—Load Deck 1 onto FX unit 1—]---------[—Load Deck 1 onto FX unit 2—]
[-ON/OFF Ultra Knob on FX unit 1-]---------[-ON/OFF Ultra Knob on FX unit 2-]
[—Load Deck 2 onto FX unit 1 —]---------[—Load Deck 2 onto FX unit 2—]

(Edit: I give up getting this to format the text well. I’ll post an image later. For now just imagine all of the vertical lines match up with each other).

Notes:
FX
-The shift buttons are out of the way and difficult to hit accidently. They also take a second to find and trigger. I think they’re begging to toggle the decks that are loaded on each FX unit and trigger large effects. The middle shift button on each side triggers an Ultra effect. I’m using Echo Freeze on FX unit 2, though it’s available on FX unit 1 if I switch to Ultra-Knob view.

-I have my SuperKnobs (on FX unit 1) set to LPF, HPF, and a misc effect. Tilting the 3D left and right triggers the filters, and toward myself controls the misc super knob.

Banks 1+2

  • Instant cue is set opposite the rest because (at least on my system) playing the instant cue will cause the track to stop playing when the button is released, which makes me want the Play Instant Cue function shift-enabled.

  • Play/pause is shift enabled.

  • Loops: This looks weird but it’s pretty simple once you understand what it’s doing…The lower 4 buttons create and activate (or turn off) mid-range and long loops (long loops when holding shift). The other 3 autoloop triggers are for the fastest loop values (That makes all 11 possible values). To exit a loop as if the loop had been a loop roll, tap the “Loop Roll 32” button. This means you don’t need to decide if you’re doing a loop roll or a regular loop until it comes time to exit. It also means you have access to all possible values for both looping and loop rolling. Lastly, it means it takes 2 button presses to do any loop roll. That doesn’t feel like a problem to me, but maybe someone disagrees?

Juggle Mode

  • Pretty straightforward. No shift buttons so I kept the loop rolling simple.

SP6 Mode

  • My goal was to be able to switch the play modes fairly easily. I’ve intended for all sample players to be initially set to Hold Mode. Then at any point while the Play button is pressed, you can tap the corresponding Start/Stop Mode button and the sample will continue playing after releasing play.
