midi controller + an external mixer

midi controller + an external mixer

ive seen it on youtube is it possible to use a midi controller and an external mixer to dj with traktor and if so how do you set it up in traktor because i downloaded the tsi file for my controller but i just dont know how to use them both at the same time

I used to do this with a numark mixer and the korg nanokontroller.are you using an external sound card though?

you need an external soundcard like the audio 2/4/8 and select external mixer in the settings and set up the routings on your soundcard. then you have to connect the soundcard to the mixer and you’re done

and map the controller to whatever you like and the mixer ain’t doing (fx, transport, hotcues, looping, etc)

yeah, this is the setup I used. who was the guy saying he had a 4 deck setup with the audio 2dj? I can’t remember how he did that.

ah you can route channel C&D into the same channels as A&B, not really a 4 channel setup but i guess its good enough to play some samples over the main decks

oh but when i used the mappings for my controller and assign what i want it to do it still doesnt work…like the “midi” thing that lights up when you use a midi device doesnt light up when i use my controller but besides that i have everything else set up properly

I’m running 4 decks with an Audio2 and my controller. Just used a series of modifiers to switch between A and C on one side, and B and D on the other.

you can’t use an audio 2/4dj to route four channels to an external mixer, you are missing 2 outputs.
internal mixing is another boat

Correct, I didn’t know we were still talking about externally. Internally, not a problem.

ok, sorry i made fun in another post. ANYWAY, if you actually need help…
read the directions/manual lol

plug in your midi controller, load up the tsi.
select EXTERNAL as your mixing preference in the Traktor system menu.
plug the RCAs from each channel of your soundcard INTO each channel on your mixer.

then you’ll be able to use your sound card on your external mixer AND use your controller.

THERE.

can you use audio dj 4 with akai mpd 26 cause i can’t figure out how?

have you read the manual to your soundcard?..

please be more specific about what you need..

MIDI Controller + External Mixer - The Advanced Version

Ok. I seem to be having a similar issue…and before i begin, yes, i have read the instructions (Asand - no snickering…I need some real help here).

I’m trying to use TSP 1.2 with an Audio8 and vinyl control and plug in a few extra MIDI controllers to offer some added functionality - at least in theory. I have the Dicers (for quick loading cue points), a Hercules MP3 e2 (for quick track browsing and effects), and an Akai APC40 (to control the 3rd and 4th deck, loop rolls, and to link to/control my video mixing software with Traktor).

However, when I load the .tsi file and attempt to use a single controller, either one or a combination of things happen:

  1. The .tsi seems to rearrange my input/output settings, layout, and other settings.
  2. The MIDI indicator doesn’t light up when a button is pressed or a slider/knob is moved.
  3. No audio.
  4. Nothing happens. I try another .tsi for that controller and try again.

Now…

Could anybody explain how to troubleshoot each of the above issues?
How can I use all three controllers together with TSP for their individual purposes?
Once I get the APC40 up and running correctly, how do I link TSP to ArKaos GrandVJ to feed the MIDI signal from TSP to the VJ software and use the MIDI out and trigger video files while changing video file banks with the APC40?
For my controls like the Hercules MP3 e2 anf the APC40 that only have the USB connection to connect to my laptop, how do I get an audio output if it has no direct audio outs to send to my external mixer?

(Hey, I may be a newbie at this controllerism thing, but I got big plans for my live events. )

If anyone has solutions to any or all of the above, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

ok, so..
-for the tsi- make sure you are hitting “import” for one tsi, then hit the “add” button at the top of the Controller Manager screen to add the other tsi’s for each controller.

-do you wanna use your pmc280 to mix/eq?
if so, plug in the RCA out for each channel from the Audio8 into each channel on your mixer.

  • and controllers dont send any sound, they’re just software controllers. so your Audio8 soundcard is your only way of sending sound to your speakers.

lemme know if u need more help but the Search button at the Home page is your friend :smiley:/ end sarcasm. sry lol

@ B-naut… are you using the Big import button every time you import your TSI settings? if so… theres your problem… use the big import button on the bottom left ONLY for the main controller you will be using (the one youll use the most) then use the add button to import your other midi devices…

Also as a side note… make sure all your midi controllers are individually assigned an output IE there not set to “all ports” on the top right hand corner of the controller manager… make sure for each TSI (and each midi device) you use you set it to the appropriate midi controllers input and output… this should fix the problem of the midi not working hopefully… if not… hmmm… check your cables?
