Are there any MIDI controllers that work with 64-bit windows Vista? Specifically the Korg Nano Pad, but I’ve been looking at other things like an MPD32. Does anyone have any experience with this?
This might be in the wrong place, if it is I’m sorry.
It’s not in the wrong place. Your best bet is to do a search on Google for the specific MIDI controller and 64-bit windows. Also, keep in mind that you can run all of the drivers in compatibility mode, so if it doesn’t work in 64-bit windows you can run it like it was Windows XP.
Well I mean for example Korg says their Nano Pad works with Vista, but it doesn’t specify 32 or 64 bit. I’ve seen drivers for certain controllers that say they are meant for 32-bit. Maybe I’m just tweaking out. But I really don’t want to spend money on something that doesn’t work.
Vista 32 doesn’t really have any compatibility issues at this point. There are some for Vista 64, but like I’ve said, I’ve had no problem with compatibility mode.
In my opinion, XP is better for Audio Production. Vista has too many background services that are a pain to shut off. However, if you are having any type of compatibility issues, look into better supported hardware.
I turned off almost everything and I have no issues whatsoever. Hell, the only reason I got the Vista 64-bit Ultimate was cause it was free with my laptop, so I don’t really care if I turn off the stuff I never need.
But yeah, better hardware means better compatibility.
Well I have had the VCI-100 working MOSTLY great on 64 bit Vista, it’s fine on Traktor 3.4 but I’ve had some problems with Pro not finding it or else not getting the midi signals even when it is detected, which doesn’t even make much sense. There seems to be something strange with the Vista USB drivers that only Pro is sensitive to. Otherwise I agree that Vista has been a good OS if you are willing to undertake the days of effort needed to learn how to shut off the numerous unnecessary background processes and otherwise tighten things up. The ReadyBoost and SuperFetch services that put more disk into memory faster are likely even a plus for Traktor performance.
Yeah I have never even touched Traktor Pro. Actually to be honest, if anyone cares, I’m less of a DJ and more of a “producer” (I guess). So I’d probably just be using the software that Korg supplies anyway…
