Mixing Externally - 4 Decks!

Mixing Externally - 4 Decks!

Im looking at buying an Xone 92 to mix externally with 4 decks. Will my NI Audio 4 do? or does it need more outputs? I thought it had 4 outputs when I purchased it, but thats 4 mono outs not 4 phono outs?

Any ideas? cheers.

You need the audio 8 not the audio 4 - you could use the audio 4 however you would have to run all 4 decks in mono. Also soundcards dont have phono outs.

What drawbacks would runnin it through mono have?

No panning between the left and right channel, both the left and right would be summed to one channel. For example if a synth was originally only in the left speaker, in mono it would be in both equally. You loose depth and space in the sound of the song. Mono for playback of songs and mixes=bad

It’s a shame that. Cheers for the info

Should also be noted alot of club systems are in mono anyway :\ You could get away with it, but its not recommended.

Would a presonus firebox have the same issue as the audio 4?

Or could that be used for 4 channels?

How many outs are on the firebox? (These are things you should know and understand before making an investment like this)

Iv read the firebox is 6. I also read the audio 4 was 4 (thats why i got it, to mix on a 4 channel mixer), but it turned out to be 4 mono outs lol

The firebox has 6 outputs, (3 pairs), so you’re in a similar situation as the audio 4.

I’m assuming your budget is around $250?

Iv not really set a budget I’m just testing the water, to see what I would need if I was to go for it

I’d shoot for anything that has 4 sets of stereo outs using RCA’s, easiest connection to your mixer.

Honestly, the Audio8 is a wonderful piece of kit.

I mix with 4 decks with a ESI quatafire. It has 8 outs, but I would like 2 extra tbh (for queing)

Go for a 10 out card if you can afford it …

Cheers

Ill look into it thanks for the info man

Id be using the mixer for the queueing so 8 would be perfect

I’m sorry, I meant pre listening tracks.

With 8 out you can play all 4 decks, but no more room for a seperate pre listening output.

Good luck on your choise anyway

you can still pre listen to tracks using the cue function on your mixer, so you still dont really need an extra set of outs. i use a esi gigaport for exactly that and it works perfectly. think of cueing up tracks externally with hardware as opposed to internally through your software

I know what you mean, and I do that on my NUO4, I would just like to be able to pre listen tracks when browsing a tracklist or collection so I don’t have to load it up (and have to reset the played state if I decide not to use it at that time)

If only you could use 2 soundcards at the same time (like onboard card for pre listening)

I might b wrong but i think u could achieve that using asio4all..but I’m not quite sure…

Correct me if I’m wrong, and I would love to be wrong on this one!, but I don’t think you can use two soundcards at the same time in TPRO
