Mobile DJ Speakers for under $1000?

Mobile DJ Speakers for under $1000?

Okay so me and my friend have hosted a few big club events but we really didn’t enjoy working with them and after this last event we threw this weekend we’re looking to buy some PA speakers or something now that we have about $900 bucks saved up. my friend already has some $500 sub that we can also use in conjunction to the system so im just wondering from all you audiophiles think what direction i should be looking for when it comes to sound

I’ve heard some pretty good things about the Mackie Thumps.

I have Thumps at home. They’re good “budget” speaker, but they are not great speakers. I think I got mine price matched from for 580.00 for the pair. For a house party they do the job…but if I had 900.00 and some subs I’d go another route.

What subs do you have?? Are they powered. Do you have an amp. Are you looking for powered speakers.

I’ve got behringer euro live b412dsp active 600 watt , speakers work very well for mobile purposes. They will do the job easily. Minus point, they are a bit heavy. But they have a new range now, must be lighter.

I use them with my cerwin vega 18 inch active sub and, they will easily do a party with 200 to 300 people

I would definitely check them out

Besides the Thumps (which I’ve been told don’t get very loud, but otherwise are a great option) this is one of the most recommended “inexpensive” setups. It has everything you need to start, and I’d take a look at some reviews around.

(Not trying to do a funny link, that’s just how amazon links show up on the forum when I copy/paste the URL)

I’ve had great results from powered JBL EON 15’s…

I just checked and saw this on Craigslist today..

“2 x JBL EON 515 PA LOUDSPEAKERS - $999”

Not sure what type of sub you have, but 2 EON 15’s with a sub should pound quite nicely.

I’ve had my eyes on the QSC K10’s or K12s. Excellent reviews all around, a little above your budget though

The B 52 Matrix can get LOUD.

I have one TH 15 A Thump.

It is a great value. But cannot get that loud. It sufficed for a 60 or so person dance party I threw.

I use a pair of powered harbinger 15"s with a Gemini sub. I got those harbingers for like $200 each at GC before using a coupon. They work awesome for their price. They don’t weigh too much either.

My buddy had the Mackie Thumps, but hated them. Ended up returning them and buying a pair of Yamaha S115.

wow what is with the Thump hate lol

i have no complaints on mine, quite loud

Okay apparently my friend says he has a KRK RP-10S Rokit Powered Subwoofer with some Rokit 6 speakers but i guess we can just ditch those speakers and get something else?

KRK RP-10S Rokit Powered Subwoofer Specifications:

•Amplification: 225W peak power
•36Hz-150Hz frequency response
•14"W x 15"H x 15-11/16"D
•42 lbs.
KRK RP-10S Rokit Powered Subwoofer Features:

•225W peak power
•10" high-excursion, glass aramid composite woofer
•XLR, RCA, and 1/4"TRS balanced/unbalanced inputs
•Video shielding

most subs are like 18" or 15"…
that 10" rockit is more of a production/monitoring subwoofer not recommended for playing out..
someone correct me if im wrong..

nah thats what i was thinking too but its all we got to work with at the moment

for sure, gotta use what you have!

if we were going to throw a rave at a small place, electro and dubstep, how much space could the b52 matrix v1000 kit fill up? is it worth the cash? is it easy to add to another setup in the future?

me & this guy got the exact same mindset going lol I looked into the Matrix and it seems pretty legit but yeah i’d like a second opinion also

i use 2 15" powered behringer and they handle a good size crowd of about 100 ppl.

I know you wanna get some speakers ASAP. However I recommend saving more money to buy some better speakers, like the Mackie HD’s, or even the older Mackie powered speakers. Even the older ones are top notch and get SUPER LOUD and sound GREAT. In the meantime just borrow or rent some. In the long run you’ll be glad you bought better speakers, and so will the people who come to listen. The listeners may not know why it sounds so good, but they will keep telling you and patting you on the back for it.

+1 for sure…

but do yourself a favour and check out the JBL EON 15. At $999 a pair used, you’ll be surprised by the sound… plus anyone that has done a mobile gig has come across these at one point or another.

I played a party of about 150 with only 1 speaker (I only have one cuz I use it as my monitor)

Save your money and get a powered sub, then you’ll really rock. I saved my money for my favourite system… now I roll with a Turbosound rig.
