Monosynth Discussion

Monosynth Discussion

I can’t seem to find a thread discussing monosynths. Microbrute? Minibrute? Waldorf Pulse 2? DSI Pro 2? Personally I’m looking at the Pulse 2. Seems to be the best bang for buck when it comes to Analogue monosynths. Thoughts?

It’s had some very good reviews as well as being used by some big producers in the underground house and techno world.

My mate had the blofeld which I have to say was a great bit of kit, and Waldorf have been a staple of house and techno since the early days.

Very good at pads and bass apparently.

Depends what you want from it?

I have a microbrute and a bass station 2 and absolutely love both of them. The bs2 is fun to program and it’s just completely hands on. The microbrute is like this insane little noise machine that produces some of the weirdest/coolest sounds I’ve ever made.
I love mono synths. So much fun.

The Novation Bass Station 2 is very highly praised. The MS-20 mini, DSI Mopho, and Slim Phatty are also great and in that price range.

right now my microbrute is my favorite monosynth. just got it in june, and its been way too easy to get lost in writing loops on my machinedrum with the brute and its internal sequencer. i just wish it had a midi out/thru.

used to have a mopho keyboard but sold it. it was nice but i think its character suited its self more toward poly voice type stuff, if i was to get another i think id rather save up a bit more and go for the x4.

that waldorf looks slick, ive got the blofeld and that UI takes a little getting used to but once you know its quirks its so fast to program on that sort of interface. fits nicely next to a midi controller like maschine on the keyboard tray of most desks.

There seems to be a lot of love for the Microbrute everywhere i go. I think i should play with one more seriously next time i go to the local shop.

Also, I’m loving the idea of paraphonic capabilities the Pulse 2 and the new Moog sub37 have. That sub37 demo that sonicstate did was absolutely MIND BLOWINGLY good. I wish it wasn’t a limited ed. synth, i would totally pick one up in a few years after saving up for it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think this is going to be super hot - Pro 2 - Sequential
I have a Pro1 in pretty terrible condition and it (or at least was while playable) one of my favorite synths of all times. I can’t wait to to see what DSI does with this. Apparently it’s got a 4 voice paraphonic mode and a massive step sequencer along with a ton of other goodies.
