Moonified Mapping for VCI-100 v2.0 is here! (no overlay, 4 deck, 4 fx, Juggle, Loops)

Hi guys,

This is my v2.0 of my ‘Moonified’ Mapping for the VCI-100 (Firmware 1.3). It requires Traktor Pro version 1.2.4 or above to function.

For the latest upgrades and info, check out www.djmoonie.co.uk/traktor

This mapping requires no overlay as the buttons principally work as originally labelled. The mapping can also be made to work with older firmwares with some fairly minor modifications if you are up to it.

I used my original V1.0 (and 1.2) mappings regularly whilst gigging, and what I’ve tried to do is improve the layout and functionality of this version, and simplify certain areas, in particular FX use.

The mapping will work as a 2 or 4 deck mapping, with either 2 or 4 effects banks enabled.

For this mapping to operate correctly, you should assign FX units 1 & 2 to advanced, and (optionally) 3 & 4 to chained.

The graphic included with the tsi file should give you a pretty good understanding of how the mapping holds together, but there are some areas that deserve a little additional explaination:-

The centre buttons in the eq section of the VCI labelled ‘effect’, will turn on FX banks 1 & 3 for the left deck (A & C), and 2 & 4 for the right deck (B & D).

The small black rotaries above them, change the key of the track (labelled bal).

In the effects section of the unit (top right), the ‘select’ button selects which FX bank you wish you use. When the red LED is lit on ‘A’, the rotaries and buttons control FX Bank 1 in advanced mode. When set to ‘B’, the control passes to FX bank 2. If the LED is set to ‘mas.’ currently the controls have no function. To control FX banks 3 & 4, see FX Mode below.

On the far left of the unit, just beside the pitch slider, the loop*4 button is now the master deck toggle. Pressing this will enable decks C & D. All controls (Eq, transport, loops etc) that previously worked on decks A & B, will now affect C & D whilst this button is lit.

The other loop*4 button on the far right of the unit is currently unused.

All other buttons should work as labelled.

The major improvement in v2.0 is introducing performance modes.

To enable a performance mode, press one of the four small black buttons on the top left of the unit.

From the top down, these are:-

Loop Mode.
Juggle Mode.
Eq Mode.
FX Mode.

You must DESELECT one mode, in order to enable a different one. When a mode is enabled, the red LED next to the button will be lit.

STANDARD MODE:-

When no performance mode LED is lit, you are in standard mode. In this mode, all the transport buttons work as labelled (play, cue play, cue pause), with the exception of set cue, which I have mapped to ‘track start’ as a quick way of getting back to the start of a track after you have set your levels.

LOOP MODE:-

(Top red LED is lit).

Play → ‘Loop In’
Cue Play → ‘Loop out’
Cue Pause → ‘set loop’ (Starts a loop running to whatever length is currently set).
Set Cue → ‘Loop Active’ (Turns a loop on of off).

Whilst in loop mode, the jog wheels now increase or decrease the current loop size. (When the vinyl mode button is lit).

JUGGLE MODE:-

(Second red LED is lit).

Play → Set/Play Cue point 2
Cue Play → Set/Play Cue point 3
Cue Pause → Set/Play Cue point 4
Set Cue → Set/Play Cue point 5

EQ MODE:-

(Third red LED is lit).

Play → Eq High Kill Switch
Cue Play → Eq Mid Kill Switch.
Cue Pause → Eq Low Kill Switch
Set Cue → Eq Reset (All kills are removed, all eq’s are returned to their 12 o’clock positions).

FX MODE:-

(Bottom red LED is lit).

Play → Chained FX 1 On/Off
Cue Play → Chained FX 2 On/Off
Cue Pause → Chained FX 3 On/Off
Set Cue → Unused

(Deck A/C turns FX bank 3 on/off, Deck C/D turns FX bank 4 on/off).

Whilst in FX mode, the pitch (tempo) and volume sliders effect the chained FX Params, and the jog wheels change the wet/dry amount (When the vinyl mode button is lit). You’ll noticed that with only 2 sliders and three effects, there is currently no way to alter the param for FX no. 3 in either bank 3 or 4. I felt this was a reasonable compromise, and you can still use an effect like reverse in this slot without needing the ability to change its param.

Where sliders and rotaries have multiple functions, they should all have ‘soft takeover’ enabled, to avoid any nasty and unexpected jumps.

Looks good, ill try it tonite.
Ps, link to your website isnt working.

looks good works great thanks

Thanks for the heads up on the weblink at the top, its not done yet, was hoping to get it ready for when this post went out, other things got in the way

your link is still down

Have found and fixed one small bug with one of the buttons in a particular performance mode. I’ll update the mapping file tomorrow and finally get the link working I hope!

Moonie

its working fine for me didnt even realize there was a bug thanks .This is keeping me going untill they get in the firmware upgrade .You have done a great job thanks

Its only a small bug. The button of the left hand deck labelled cue/pause will always turn on/off FX 3 even if you don’t have the FX mode enabled! Sorted it now tho.

There will also be some changes over the next week or two as I bed the mapping down and find whats working and whats not from a performance view point.

Thank you

did u get those updates done

Some info the filter buttons dont work thats it as far as what dont work that i can find

Ok finally got time for an update!

In answer to your post deejaygee, the filter buttons do work, but I’m guessing you aren’t running firmware 1.3 ? They were radically modified by that update as compared to the original midi signals.

Ok, Update..

Whilst the mapping I created had most of the functionality I wanted, it wasn’t always intuitive and in places, was fiddly to use in a live environment.

In particular, if you weren’t playing a track out, setting a loop required you to enter loop mode, set the loop start, exit loop mode, wind the jogs forward to your end point, then enter loop mode again, then set the end point! (It sounds worst than it was, but was still far from ideal).

So changes:-

All functionality as detailed at the start of this thread this remains, with these changes:-

Jog wheels in loop mode, now act as scratch platters (same as in normal mode), this allows you to set loops more quickly when not playing a track, without having to dip in and out of loop mode.

The loop size change that was on the platters has now been moved to the first two effects knobs in the top right of the unit, when the LED is lit for MASTER. This also means that you can now change loop sizes without having to be in loop mode.

The buttons underneath these two knobs now act as loop on/off toggles aswell.

Other changes:-

The unused button labelled ‘effect’ in the top right, now toggles the monitor select from 0%->100% for quick, (semi) split cueing.

The soft takeover of the volume faders has been removed.

To get this update, simply download the file here:-

Moonified v2.1

Next update will:-

Remove the line faders from use in FX Mode. Its just too problematic sharing such a fundamental control and limits how much you can do at once.

Add EQ Bass kills somewhere as well as the transport buttons in EQ mode to allow easier access.

these mappings are really cool and useful. Thank you
I’m using it since two hours and are very good.
One Thing, is it possible to use the volume faders when in juggle mode? it will be cool for using the cue points while mixing two songs.
Another cool function can be the possibility to use the unused loop*4 on the right used as shift in combination with cue points in juggle mode to cancel the stored cue points.
And with 2.1 i’ve noticed that the dry/wet with the jogweel with effects 3 and 4 does not work anymore.
Thank you for this job

Tamamma,

The jog wheel dry/wet I will investigate and sort out in the next update, which will include having the volume faders active when not in standard play mode!

I’ll also see if I can add a juggle point delete with a ‘shift’ button, but we’re running out of modifiers…

Tamamma,

The wet/dry jogs do still work with the 2.1 mapping. I am assuming that you had the vinyl mode button unlit ?

V2.2 mapping is here!

A few changes over v2.0/v2.1

Firstly,

The volume faders are now active in whatever performance mode you are in.
This does mean that when in FX mode, the volume fader that was assigned to FX amount 2, has had to be moved.

When in FX mode, the filter button now acts as FX amount 2. This does mean that the filter is now only available in standard mode.

The button marked loop*4 on the RIGHT of the unit, is now an emergency reset, if for some reason, the modifiers get out of sync. This sets everything back to the default states. You can use it to quickly get out of any performance mode, but it also sets the deck view back to 2 decks.

The last 2 buttons on the FX group (top right of the unit) now function as EQ low kills when the LED above is set to MASTER (mas).

When in Juggle mode, you can now unset any hotcues you have made by simply touching the jogwheel and pressing whichever button you used to set the hotcue originally. The jogseek/ vinyl mode button must be lit.

Enjoy!

Download v2.2

You’re great!!
I’m gonna try it now! Thank you.
And the jog weel works int the fs mode the problem was as you said the vinil mode.
Thank youuuuuu!!!

One thing will be perfect now. In FX mode use the last two fx control on the right to set the amount of the “FX amount 3” because i see i can’t modify it but just enable with the cue/|| button. What do you think about it?

I did think about that.
I will probably instead set one of the EQ buttons to do that when in FX mode to keep them all near each other on the VCI.

Its a pretty small mod if you want to attempt it
