Moving from Traktor to CDJ - what is the CDJ equivalent of the Kontrol F1

It doesn’t make any more sense to buy a CDJ350 than a CDJ2000 to do that. This thread is full of better options.

I’ve been reading this thread with interest, as it parallels some of the thoughts I’ve been having recently.

About 3 months ago, I bought a pair of 2000 Nexuses. A couple of my weekly residencies had them, and having experimented, I decided I really liked the simplicity of playing off USB/SD. No laptop in my face, just me, 2 decks and a mixer. Really fun.

But, as is always my way, in the past few weeks I’ve started to over complicate things; bringing out my RMX-1000, and bringing one of my own CDJs to use with the pair already installed.

I felt like having 3 gave me the freedom to run those loops, and drop in samples, etc.

After doing that for about 3 weeks solid, I left my CDJ at home last night. Just played off the two.

And I was DOPE (if I say so myself). Remembered exactly why I had gone down the CDJ route in the first place.

So here’s my advice, Snuka.

If you want to play off USB, embrace the restrictions. There’s nothing to stop you loading a ton of loops to the Tag List at the start of the night (I might do a video about that). That’s the beauty of that setup. Working within those parameters.

If you try that, and decide it’s not enough for you, then just stick to using Traktor. All the alternatives in this thread are going to end up more restricting, but you’ll still be carting around extra kit. So use Traktor, via HID mode ,and the soundcard in the DJM. That’s the perfect half-way house in my opinion.

be great to see a video of you tagging loops Mojaxx - intrigued as to how you use those

I know that people can figure out how much an I-phone costs to make down to the penny, I wonder if they’ve done the same to cdjs, because they are expensive for what you get it seems. For some reason, controllers for the money seem to be made much better.
