Hey all, just curious as to how id go about connecting my 2 CDJ 1000 mk3’s and DJM 600 into my computer to run traktor, id rather not go out and buy what i think i need, i’d rather know for sure what i need. Just after a few suggestions if there is a possible way to even do it as well.
Worst suggestion ever!! Why do people feel that the only option is to throw loads of money at new gear??!! just stick with what you’ve got and buy an X1 or 2. Perfect for controlling cue points and effects when needed. Absolutely no need to spend thousands of $ or £ upgrading.
Exactly what he just said.
There is NO need to go and buy more expensive gear and new CDJs at all.
What Steve 1st posted, yeah. Follow that video, it is really easy.
And then what SlayForMoney said, get a controller for Traktor. Native Instruments do a ‘Kontrol X1’ about £100.
After you get up and running you will start realising that you could really so with a controller. Cue points, sync (if you use it)? FX (being the main reason for me).
There’s plenty of controllers for Traktor out there. Have a look about.
Kontrol X1 & some Allen & Heath ones being favourite with a lot of people.
So now I’m curious and interested. If you add an X1 to a cdj/mixer setup, can you use the cdjs independently or would you need to connect them in midi/hid/timecode? Jog wheels in midi suckkkk.
A controller with decent jogwheels is FAR better than a CDJ using timecode lol.
Personally, I’d just sell the CDJ1000s to some idiot who hasn’t got a clue and buy yourself a controller. You’ll actually make a net profit on your upgrade.
And it’s not “thousands” to upgrade to a decent controller; you can get a Reloop Contour for less money than the X1, which will do EVERYTHING the X1 does and offer you 4-deck transport controls, with a 10-out audio interface built right in.
EDIT: Just to clarify, with a SINGLE Contour and your DJM-600 you have a complete 4-deck setup; the Contour can output 4 stereo pairs straight into the DJM-600, and you do all of your mixing externally.
You’ve also got complete control over FX for each deck, and have 5 separate jog modes for each deck (Normal, Scratch, Pitchbend, Search and Track view), which you can re-map as you see fit.
Reloop Contour looks fine, there’s no dedicated pitch fader on though. I’m not sure how good their built-in soudcard is but damn right, it’s really affordable. Denon SC2000 are also fine in that category. Agreed, there’s no built-in soudcard but they’re rock solid. Behringer CMD PL-1 could be something interesting once released.
Scratch A6/A10 package will allow you to keep your CDJs AND/or use any other CD player… even Turn Tables. Handy if you do gigs on the road and don’t want to carry all your gear. X1 or any other MIDI controller with pads/knobs will do the job. X1 are just plain plug & play. Many MIDI mapping available all over the place here and all over the net too for almost each and every MIDI controller available on the market.
Nothing bad with any of the above suggestions, you have a lot of possibilities. Traktor Pro + Controller or Scratch A6/A10 + your existing setup… you might invest a bit more for Scratch, on the other hand it’s a bit more flexible “gear wise” and you have a good sound quality soundcard. Useful or a must? Only you can make this decision.
In my case I find it handy to have Scratch even if I no longer use Timecode on a regular basis. Sometime I just feel to use it, sometimes not. Go figure, says the old dirty bag in me
I use Shift + Pitchbend mode on the jogwheel to control the tempo fader, lets you make REALLY fine adjustments and also really large ones without much effort It’s also relative control rather than absolute, which means if you swap decks you don’t have to use soft takeover/reset the control to center before making your adjustments which is nice
The sound card is pretty amazing tbh, I’ve had mine down as low as 4ms and anything over 5 is pretty standard even on a slower system. Only downside is the lack of any inputs (for a mic etc) but if you’re using an external mixer that’s not a big problem.
You’ve also got a 5th stereo channel out the front for headphones (6.5mm AND 3.5mm jacks) which you can use SIMULTANEOUSLY, so if you’re using a MIDI setup with internal mixing, two DJs can work the decks at the same time without having to swap headphones over.
Sorry to go off topic here, but is there any way to change the sensitivity on my cdj jog wheel when in midi mode? I have to really push that wheel to get to any spot on the waveform.
Good man Considering how cheap they are, you can’t really go wrong tbh. If I was headlining a festival or something, I’d show up with 4 of them and either an RMX-40 or the Behringer MM-1
