Moving into the present with S4 & X1..?

I have until recently been using 2xCDJ400s and a 4 channel Behringer DJX700 and Korg Kaoss Pad KP3. I started on the CDJs for their usb function instead of using CD’s. After years of not utilizing it as a midi controller, I started using Traktor Pro ( I haven’t even looked at other software) I decided to buy a X1 and the free Pro 2 upgrade, now i seem to hardly even touch my CDJ’s. I have decided to buy a S4 so I can use the external mixer rather than buying an Audio 2, 6 etc. I have decided to sell my KP3. I feel buying the S4 (which is a definite) it will make my CDJ’s and mixer redundant. Is this the case that I will vertually have 2 full set ups or am I best to intergrate the CDJ’s whit the S4 & X1.
Your opinions please
Cheers,

Some people who have moved from decks or CDJs to the something like the S4 have the missed the tactile mixing experience. I sold my decks years ago and ended up buying another set after I got my S4. I would integrate the setup, at least for a while. Only you can decide the best setup for you.

If I do integrate them with a S4 via Traktor Pro 2 will they be used as midi devices or using audio outputs (totally novice, I am using internal mixer at the moment rather than buying an Audio2/6 etc). I will defiantly keep my CDJ’s, thanks for the advice.

if you get the S4 you will be mixing internally as well so nothing changes, if you want to mix externally you’ll have to get an audio 2/4/6/8/10 depending on what in and outs you need

You can also get the scratch upgrade for the S4 and use the CDJ’s with timecode. Although I hear of lackluster performance with the 400’s and timecode.

Okay sorry what I meant is that I am using the Traktor mixer with my mouse and once I have the S4 I will be “externally” mixing via Traktor, so really my question is can I plug my CDJ’s into USB and control them as channels B & D? I hope this makes a little mote sence. I have a X1 I can use, but I’ve been told to keep the CDJ’s & try utilize them.
Thanks for your time,

Thanks, as I say I am just entering the realm of software intergration ( call be 5-10 years behind) can you please give me a link to a good webpage so I can understand timecode and Scratch a bit more.
It looks like I’m just going to use S4 & X1 for now and keep CDJ’s and hopefully eventually incorporate them.

I personally wouldnt bother keeping the CDJ’s if your getting an S4, get em on ebay, sell them to some other mug who hasnt cottoned on that digital DJing is the way forward

CDJ400 in HID works fine. You could even add them to your S4 setup in a snap. If any badluck happen to your S4, you can use them as soundcard directly. (assuming you download and install their latest firmware & driver)

Keep them, btw you’re not going to have bunch of cash for.

I would sell the CDJs and go for the S4 with X1’s…well actually thats what i did…sold my cdj1000’s and my Audio8DJ to get the S4 with 2* X1’s… I would never regret it

S4 + X1’s = More powerful than CDJ’s and more compact,

I agree. I use my CDJs with my X1 on the side, but I would never go back to strictly a controller after mixing externally with CDJs.

I started with traktor. Only used pioneer 2000s/800 after, then fooled around with a bunch of other peoples controllers.
I have no doubt that the S4 is the way to go.
I would just keep your old mixer unless you got a decent PA mixer (its nice to have a easy way to split signals, or mix with someone else).
Sell the rest.

I’ve done this a few times; makes it fun and simple. While one guys mixing in or out the other can be on the mixer riding the eq or doing some fills.
