Moving to Chicago to follow my dreams! Looking for more Chicagoans!
Hey! Just trying to network with fellow DJs and stuff before I pick up and leave for Chicago. I don’t really know more than 3 or 4 people up there and I’m not too good at getting around out there so yeaaah…
After being stuck DJing in rural Illinois I’ve finally decided to pack up and go where some real parties are at.
Been here since forever, been doing shitloads of guest spots… not really trying for a residency (been offered a few, but they dont interest me)
Let me know if you get a spot or something… send me a demo, i always got club owners asking me if i know people that are looking for a residency (most of my friends are unreliable when it comes to it) so i can pass it on.

Hey buddy! I just moved to Chicago 5 months ago from NY. I knew 1 person since moving here. Now I party pretty much anytime I want. I’ve been having a great time. I’ve been going to a number of shows at the mid and vision.
Since here i’ve guested at one spot, Lokal lounge in wicker park, and xippo in roscoe vill. I’ll actually be playing at lokal again on the 9th if you want to stop by. Hit me and send me a pm sometime. I have a few friends come over and spin at my place every week in bucktown.
Also Bigboibbp, you mind if I send you a demo to pass along? I would be interested in playing more a residency place? I’ve just been doing house parties since being in Chi and quess spots. I work full time but would like something on the weekends too.

This is pretty cool… one of my friends used to be a resident at xippo, the chef used to always hook it up with tater tots too… That place is sweet! that same buddy has a residency at vision at the moment too.
and i got ur pm, just havent read it yet… will respond soon, but was invited to play at the mid in a few weeks, haven’t checked it out yet. Got to do evil olive not to long ago with a different buddy who is hookin it up with the mid.
Definitely… gonna be buying a midi fighter soon too, but im trying to stop buying controllers right now cuz im scared someone is gonna throw me an intervention and send my ass to rehab… lol
Nice! Glad to hear peeps are helping each other out. I myself am up in Milwaukee, would be cool to bring up some Chicago guys one weekend and play out.
I like playing remixes of popular stuff, electro, house, some dubstep, and hip-hop. I throw in a little 50’s-90’s stuff for kicks. Lately I’ve been mixing in Footloose, Nobody but me by Human Beinz, and a few other quirky tunes. Those kind of curveballs always get a good response from drunk party goers.
Turned in my official resignation at work today! Feels great! Finally get to slack off. All day I kept saying to coworkers “What can they do? Fire me?” So awesome!
awesome. I normally mix house, prog house, trance, and electro. Depends on the spot I play what is needed. If its by choice its a mix of house, prog, and trance or Trouse.
Not a single one! I’ve met tons of great people and have gotten a steady thursday and now saturdays as well. For having no connections in the city and then just coming here and getting going. It’s all been fantastic. I owe a lot of it to meeting a guy on here after posting this thread. (GuiltySounds aka GuiltyBlade on DJTT)
Crazy story. The night before I moved here my roommate to be was at a bar and listening to a DJ bang it out after having a hard day at work. She was sitting at the bar alone and after his set he came up and talked to her. They ended up going to after hours and partying all night. She gave him a ride home later and they got to talking. She mentioned her new roommate moves in tomorrow and he’s moving to be a DJ. He looks at her in shock. He was one of the people I was planning on mixing with when I moved. (GuiltySounds) They flipped out. The universe works in mysterious ways. So now I play with him all the time and we’re all friends. DJTT ftw!
So what gig did you happen to pop in for? I hope it wasn’t one of the slower nights. I’m still building a name so those happen sometimes. They’re just part of the experience though.

I moved from SoCal to Dallas without knowing a soul. Got a job opportunity and jumped on it. I had 2 residencies that I left in CA. After getting here and not knowing anyone, I kinda put DJ’ing on hold. Matter of fact I sold all my gear except from about 150 80’s vinyl. After a few years, I got the itch so I bought gear again and started doing mobile stuff. After a year of that I got tire of it and started hitting the clubs, sending out demos. Got a few guest spots with the demos. Then a quasi residency at a sushi bar. A few months later a 2 nights a month at club.
Slowly building a fan base. The club I am at actually wants me to do Fridays. Fridays are slow, but the owner thinks I can build it. They have had a few DJ’s that have a following here in Dallas do Fridays to try and build it. No success. They want me to give it shot, guess I’ve had good feed back since I am more of an open format DJ, even though I lean more to the House genre side. We might be giving that a shot in the New Year. I’ve also been signed to do their NYE Ball. I am also their designated back up DJ if anyone cancels or gets sick.
So starting over is not so bad if you hustle. Also not getting comfortable and continue to hustle.
The world works in mysterious ways. Good thing you I’m not a total douche bag and was able to help out a little. For both of us being completely unknowns to playing all the time, its going quite well! Now we both gig at Ultra lounge near congress, I still play at Lokal, and i’m starting to play other places. Building your name always has its ups and down, you get a ton of people (like last week at lokal I had it packed) to other times when it empty. But I spread the love for sure. Wooo connections! When I have to move to SF i hope someone from hear can give me a little karma!
@bigboi glad you could stop by! Thats cool that you showed some DJTT love. Do you play around at all? If so give me some info so I can stalk one of your gigs!

im a dj ninja…lol. usually a unannounced guest. Did the residency thing but really didnt like it much. doin afters mostly and some frat gigs at niu and champaign/urbana
Stuff coming up:
gonna be chilling with dj sneak nxt thursday, possibly hit an after, then planning on playing an after with a buddy and dubfire next friday (ill fb u details). then flying out to new york to play an after with dubfire and chill with carlo lio after their set at district 36 (might play there too, not confirmed yet), gonna hit an after that sat aswell, currently trying to finalize some plans out there for sunday, dont wanna say much right now because im still not 100% sure it’ll be done in time.
