MPD26 and performing with live.

MPD26 and performing with live.

Just some random thoughts that popped into my head. I just realized a lot of producer DJs that I am fond of use the MPD26 when playing out. Then I realized most of them are using live. I use live to perform but have only used/own the apc40 and ohm rgb. Is there something about the MPD that other controllers dont have that I am missing? Just something I noticed. I almost feel like there has to be something that makes the MPD stand out. It cant be a coincidence I have seen so many Live DJs use one…

/random tbought.

you sure you aren’t seeing an mpd32?

I don’t think there’s a whole lot special to an MPD, but 16 pads is where it’s at. That’s part of the reason I love QuNeo and Maschine and Tempest and old MPCs… the list goes on. It’s just a great form factor for a lot of things.

im not to sure as to why an MPD26, but and MPD32 has 8 knobs (in an 2x4 format) 8 faders (matches with Ableton) As well as 4x4 drum pads. 4x4 has an almost natural feel to it.

mpd26, with quantize on, makes tapping out beats, melodies, and rhythms extremely useful. It is a staple in my workflow, combined with a launchpad. The faders and knobs assign very easily and the ViVEX mapping software is pretty useful for creating custom presets. If I were a better live akai pad player, I would use the mpd 26 in Ableton along with traktor and blast out beats. I totally see where an mpd26 or 32 would be useful tool for live performance as each pad can be assigned to a note and is velocity sensitive.
