My New Dubstep track (Cocaine Injection) FeedbacK?
I have been producing for about two months now. This is the 5th tune I have completed. I’m starting to like what my tunes are sounding like but I would like some input from everyone else so let me know what you think. If you like it i set it up for free download.
I think you’re on the right track, but right now it sounds like a cacophony of noises. I like the combination of sounds you’re using, but they don’t all sound like they’re sitting in the mix together very well. Keep it up!
Yeah I’m kinda going for the cluster of noise sound but I get what you mean. I noticed the same thing. EQing, compressing and limiting are my weak point. I dont really know what Im doing when it comes too those things I have just been experimenting. Which is prolly why the sounds dont all sit perfect in the mix. Im also mastering on headphones which dosent help. Thank you for the input!
thanks I appreciate your honesty. I just started another track im working on adding more of a melodic syth line in the higher frequency range to accompany the bassline. Hopefully this will help my lack of melody. between 3:00-4:00 I kinda went all out with re sampling and chopping up the bassline. May be why it sound most interesting there. I will try and incorporate more of that in my next track.
you’re doing real well for such a short time in music production. i have two things i can share.
Sometimes bass kicks and certain drum hits get drowned out when heavy synths come in to play. So EQing a bit can help avoid that as well as compression on those frequencies that drown on the bass kick. Because the kicks became drowned out, you end up losing the sub bass that could’ve been enjoyed.
Harmony within the main melodies and sounds used within the track. Now this is sort of a blend of personal preference, and technicality, so it’s really something to consider with a grain of salt. I didn’t quite vibe or have the ability to get the dubstep track stuck in my head, but with a good melody and a bit of harmonization with your samples/instruments then it’ll definitely create a fuller feeling song.
Thanks for the tips. I side chain my bass line and eq everything I just don’t my ears are that well trained yet not to mention I do everything in headphones.
I really appreciate all the advice tho I will be posting another track soon.
yeah. don’t play everything at once, and if you do, give each sound its own place in the mix (less compression, more precise EQing). as to harmony, man, you just gotta hear when tones clash if you want to produce music (and DJ properly)…
