New DAW from Presonus: Studio One
New DAW from Presonus: Studio One
looks really nice. im gonna get the demo.
any idea how much its gonna cost? i cant seem to find a figure.
i have no clue to be honest
i dl´d the demo and wasn´t to happy about having to register on their site but it looks quite promising so far…i will give it a try for sure.
what may could become interesting is:
“Apparently there is a massive major free update coming out in 3 months that should include things like Beat Detect and Tab to Transient which will be amazing…”
if that´s true - good!
man i hope they don’t fudge this one..this looks amazing.
Oh man, “ridiculously simple?” If that’s true, Studio One is going to be the new FL (and/or GarageBand) of production. (I’m allowed to say that. I only use FL. lol.). I’m kidding.
But I’m definitely willing to give it at shot. The only thing I’d say is that I think unless Studio One is particularly ground breaking, I doubt many people will migrate from their familiar Ableton/FL/etc. enviornments just to try something new. Very new. That hasn’t been through years of problem solving… I don’t know, I’m just sayin…
i agree, it’s gonna take time for it to develop to compete with things like logic, pro tools, etc but it looks like a damn good start.
the fact it has a mastering setup built in is pretty sweet.
Definitely. I guess I’m just overly pessimistic about new things.
Even though I don’t know anything at all about mastering, the fact that Studio One promises to “do it all” makes me fearful or a bunch of cookie-cutter productions. Maybe that’s just my opinion. Certainly this is a problem in any production software.
All I’m saying is that since they’re really trying to make something that does everything, how well-developed are these individual features?
most “producers” in our days just throw some mastering plug on the main bus and then call it “mastered” - they don´t even know what their doin´ … maybe studio one gets people more into the actual process of mastering, dunno?!
although it doesn´t matter peeps; throw izotopes and psp´s all over the place like mentioned above…making music today means also fighting the war of loudness.
i took a further look around, there are 2 versions artist and pro. its essentially the same except the artist version doesnt support VST or AU..
that being said, the pro version is only like 400 USD.. so its still less then ableton.
meh… i don’t really get the hype. doesn’t look any simpler to use than ableton or the rest.
as far as I can tell “simple” is just code word for “stripped-down” or “limited” lol.
As this is an old thread
Any body actually used this by now? looking to get a DAW and this interests me. any good?
Bumpty bump ![]()
FL Psystudio 10 ![]()
I have used Ableton for a range of things…but production.
I always used Cubase and Reason before that.
I have not produced for some time…and have jumped onto Apple Mac in the meantime.
So no Cubase. (yes yes…I can dual boot etc…) so tried Logic.
After an hour of looking for the Time Stretch function I gave up.
So about 2 weeks ago…I decide to try mucking about with some Electro…in Ableton Live 8.
Man…within mins I had some good shit going. It was REALLY simple to use and the work flow was great!
My mates always told me this…and I always said BLEGH!
I like it sound engine too.
I have used it, i think imho that it is a great tool.
I have used ableton live extensively in the past and i really like it but after a few year i felt that i kept making loops, and actually never really finishing anything. Because making loops in ableton is a lot of fun, and is pretty fast and everything, i felt it was hard ( to me ) to take those loop in session view and actually using the arrangement window. And when i tried to use the arrangement window i would find it quite frustrating to use.
But studio one is very hands on, very easy to use, but not in “toy” way, just the way the different functions are laid out, the way you can edit audio/midi, etc…
Then again it’s only my opinion, i have a few years using daws and studio one did really boost my creativity. But i could only advise one thing, try it for yourself :
http://www.presonus.com/products/SoftwareDetail.aspx?SoftwareID=11
After that go to ableton, and try Live.
Then make your own opinion, because at those levels (price wise and technical wise) almost all the daws can do the same things, but not in the same way, and the amount of time you are dedicated to put into it will make the difference, not really the hype surrounding one product or another ![]()
So better try it first, because no amount of advice from us will make it up if you buy one or the other and you are not satisfied ( expensive software ).
I hope i didn’t sound patronizing or anything, because it’s the last thing i wanted to convey !
lol Jester I had to double check that! “A psy studio, wow cool:eek:
”.
I primarily want to produce psy. Ableton I’m gonna pass on for now,to expensive. Gonna get Studio one artist, you can get a free copy with £50 masterkey midi controller. normally retails around £170 just for studio one artist edition, the upgrade to pro is also £170. so could get the whole package for £220. if I decide to upgrade. i have used reason before and enjoyed that but expensive. Times are hard though so £ dictate ![]()
Oneapemob thanks ,not at all patronising. I tried the demo and enjoy it.
Thanks guy’s for your input.
