I’m looking for ideas, and suggestions on this party i’m throwing in the next few weeks
The bar is an irish pub and it holds about 150 ppl
We are going to rent some speakers and bring in equipment needed to play music, we are going to have 4 local dj’s spinning throughout the night (including myself) playing various house, electro and mash-up stuff.
Basically wondering if i need to remember anything special to make sure it runs smoothly and I definitely need help for a name for the night
lights of some type would be nice, but not required.
Get a catchy name, and if you feel like it, take a lot of video footage so you can put together some vids with some nice editing. A high school buddy of mine spins at this night, and I have to say, I really like their video editing style
get flyers out, and get that up on facebook etc asap. Just because someone “says” they will come don’t count on it. Also on the flyers u can put ur facebook etc, get followers.
As a DJ its all about how many people you can bring into the club.
my advice is to invest a lot in your atmosphere. since it’s a pub you may not have a lot of time to setup depending on how busy it is that night, but do whatever you can to make it a cool environment.
My advice? Bring lots of girls! …and a few buddies to get drinks from the bar while your DJing
Does his place already host edm nights? Or are you the litmus test?
Flyers, Fly Poster’s, a style or a logo is always a good place to start then you base all your posters and flyers on the same thing brand and image etc etc etc. oh and of course you need to play some incredible tune’s I like “Electro - luck” as suggested by Bentosan
First Vid was awesome, 2nd was a bit … poor. Especially the mix was really bad (whoever did it should work harder on his mixing skills). But I think you’re on a good way.
What about ‘electro pub nights’ ?!
I was a bar/club manager for seven years so here is my take on things. It might be too much or too little info for you, but I’m drinking coffee and have the day off
-Who is going to be directly in charge of the party? This person needs to have an open channel with the management team from the establishment and stay somewhat coherent (sober) the whole night. They also need to make sure the DJs go on when they are supposed to and make sure that if anything crashes there is a plan B.
-Is there going to be a cover? Make sure there is someone at the door who is comfortable telling Irish pub patrons that they have to pay a cover to get in that night and denying them if they don’t want to pay it. (I have seen people almost come to fisticuffs because they had to pay to get into their local pub because some hipster party took it over). Establish with the management how long the cover will take place, i.e. 9-1 or no cover before 9. Establish a team of less than 3 people to handle the money. You might not even want a cover for the first night or do a college discount to get younger people.
-Are there going to be drink specials? This can help get an early crowd and as the entertainers, you can keep them there.
-What is the lighting situation? Pubs normally have a pretty dark lighting ambience which is good for dance but they might not. You don’t want glaring flourescent lights turned all the way up.
-Watch your levels. I have been to so many clubs and bars that don’t change their level depending on the size of the crowd. If you have a slow first night there won’t be enough bodies to absorb the sound if you have the speakers at 11. You’ll end up with an echoey sound and a bad review.
