hmmm just not feelin it

I initially read it as “Moal 9” and had to look at your username to figure it out. Looks good, but I’m sure I won’t be alone on that.

Pay a designer. That isn’t very easy on the eyes, and is off on just about everything a logo is supposed to contain aesthetically.

I’m down for scratching it and starting from anew if necessary - can you expand on whats necessary “aesthetically”?

Spend some time looking at logos of big successful companies and you’ll see why they work. Apple, NI, Traktor, Nike. All very simple and recognisable.

Just realized that my comment comes off a bit harsh, and with no insight, dickish. Look at it like this. If you have to shrink it down, all that stuff in the background isn’t going to be legible anyhow. With it at a readable size, it takes away from the actual “logo”. It’s a bit too busy. The rainbow effect on the left also does not add, but takes away from the main focal point, the logo. In addition to that, it makes the image “right heavy”.
In general, a logo should be simple, clean, and bold. While you want it to look cool to grab attention, you have to keep in mind it is your identity and brand recognition. Keeping that in mind, it has to work across multiple platforms. Ask yourself some of these things when looking at your final renderings…
Does it work just as effectively at a very small (30-50 pixels) size as a very large size? Will it work grayscale as it does in RGB/CMYK? Is it bold while remaining not too busy?

Oh, i undesrtand what you are saying.

THe logo itself has nothign to do with the background - the logo is only the words. I just put it on that background to make it look nice. Its sort of when NI puts there logo on a background like this:

Even though you don’t consider the backgroudn to be part of the logo.
I suppose what i meant about comments on it is just how the word itself is designed - not the background.

My apologies - and thanks for the insight.

Gotcha. As a one time design, I like grungy looking letters. For logos, I think clean lines work better. Grunge looks and lack of detail take away from design at smaller sizes, so keep that in mind, as logos get used at very small sizes the majority of the time.

Ahh ok. I also designed a cleaner logo - that at a second look i might like more. What do you think?

I don’t mean to be harsh man, but it doesn’t look good. It’s very boring, and it could have been made in MS Paint. If it’s just going to be letters, you need to incorporate some design elements into the letters themselves by altering them.
If you are serious about wanting to have a logo, hire a half decent designer to get it together for you. You can usually find college kids (there are a lot of VERY skilled up and comers in schools) that will do stuff like this for free just for a little exposure.

try something a little more complex, but clean and ready for use. example, this is my logo(on my single just released on itunes  ):

@Sobi - I actually appreciate the harsh tone, it shows that you’re really saying what you believe. A big part of me wanting the logo is to have a project to work on and see if I can design one. So if you stick with me and keep giving me comments hopefully i’ll be able to eventually design my own - I don’t care as much about having it super professional.

@Dark Grey - impressive logo  i’ll check you ur song on iTunes soon

Can you guys look back to the edited OP and see what you think about 3b?

3b is a good design and is pleasing to the eye but not sure about the sections you have used the smudge tool on stands out a bit too much, add the smudge feature on another layer and put a gaussian blur filter on the layer with the smudge to soften it up a bit.
(that is assuming you are using photoshop)

not bad, but it doesn’t really stand out. its still basically just a name and not much people out there could standout with just there name in print. maybe experiment with different fonts? try using more than one font in the logo. maybe put the G inside the O. idk just fuck around with what you have and try to come up with as many different combinations as you can imagine.

also dont use the smudge tool. if your using photoshop pretend your using illustrator and, like some one else already mentioned, keep in mind that it has to work in all types of different formats, sizes, materials, it will be resized multiple times…

EDIT: ohh and dont put a fancy background until it can stand on it’s own in black and white. try looking at it rotated, upside down, inverted, and in all sorts of different color combinations.

take 3/3B and take it back to square one, clean it up and make it simple.

I’m not sure on the O stacked over the G. And as noted stick to black & white or just white background and one colour

IMO, not doing it in color is incorrect. Do it in color, but KEEP IT SIMPLE. after that, just make sure it also works in a B&W look. Starting in B&W is going to tie your hands on color combos. If you want the quick option of going back and forth, just put a B&W adjustment layer on top of everything and turn it on/off whenever you want.

I kinda like 3B, if you can get the blurring to look a bit more uniform, at the moment, it looks kinda thrown-together and random.

among those 4, i would say numero tres
