NI Kontrol X1 vs. A&H Xone 1D

NI Kontrol X1 vs. A&H Xone 1D

whats your opinion on these two? Which one do you think is better?

apart from the lack of a jog wheel, my vote is for the X1.

just out of curiosity why do you think it would be better?

Its got a lot of features, is light as a feather, and is a nice affordable price. If you want a wheel and faders tho, the 1D would be the way to go i think mate.

if my Xone 1D had an extra row of knobs i would have stayed using that… I love the faders on it, as i used it to turn on/off the dry/wet, as well as control the dry/wet. I loved being able to slam all my effects of at once… but I like the way my 2 X1’s are layed out.. its a reall nice controller. I have one of my 1D’s for sale in the “for sale” sction of the forums if you decide to go that route…

bump for this questions. Thinking about a Xone mixer with either of these. Haven’t used either of these — I like the layout of the 1D with a jogwheel, think im just used to always having one, vs. not having it with the X1. However, the X1 is layed out just right and ready to go. How do folks with two X1’s seek thru a song with out jog wheel or pre set cue points. That is my only concern?

You seek through a song on the X1 using one of the endless knobs. And I had my Xone 1D mapped like that too. That type of mapping is taken basically from Hawtin’s setup. On the Xone 1D I had the very top row of knobs mapped so they would turn normally and set the loop size, then if you pushed the knob encoder down as a button it would lock in the loop. Then if you had the shift modifier pushed on, then the knob could seek through a track quite nicely when turned.

i have 2 ids but my beef with the x1s is that its hard to use 4 fx units because there are only 2 fx on off buttons per deck

Bass,

So can you only use two effects per deck? Can you choose which effect or are you limited to a certain fx bank per deck.

You can choose. You can use 4 fx untis but the mapping is weird i think. take a look at the layout and youll understand what im saying!

The jog wheel on the 1d is useless anyway, you could get away with having the same functions on a single rotary knob which would take up much less space - x1 ftw

ok…think im gonna pull the trigger on a Xone 92 and two X1’s

I hope you looked at the ecler evo 4 and evo 5. I just switched from a xone 42 to an evo 5. Xone is nice but there are some better options out there!

Be sure to post videos and pics etc. as im thinking of swapping my vci for a xone 42 and two x1’s.

Bass…

..Shit, school me up. Why’d you switch?? I’ve got a local guy selling a 92 and just dropped his price. I think I migh be able to talk him down to 950-900 bucks. I was looking at the 42 as a cheaper option. Also looked at the Ecler’s you mentioned and honestly just pikced the Xone’s because of their reputation and they are widely used. Why’d you drop the 42 for an Ecler?

well, I kind of fell in love with the evo 5, it was pretty expensive but its complete midi surface and has the effects unit and bigger nicer effects knobs. Its jut really well laid out. For the price of the 42 plus the fact that I can sell my audio 8 because the evo 5 is TSP certified. it was only a few hundred extra dollars for the midi surface. If you can get a 92 for 900 bucks though thats amazing. I would also check out the evo 4, its not TSP certified but you have to separate effects units, a complete midi surface. I loved my xone but I just felt there there were cooler things out there. The evo 5 has much better output options compared to the 42 but the 92 has amazing output options as well. I would compare the evo 4 side by side with tthe 92 and make a decision from there. THe evo 5 is a little out of the price range we are talking (its msrp is 1900 I got one new for 1600)

yeah the Evo 5 sounds sweet. I looked around, but thats a bit out of my price range. I was figuring the 92 + audio 8 would be around 1300 buck, maybe less if i can find a used Audio 8. Add two X1’s and im in business for 1600 - 1700. Thats just a big investment and am trying to do it right but on a budget as well.

Thanks for you input man.

used evo would be around 1100 and no need for an audio 8. If you do buy an audio 8 consider buying mine

How much?

The only reason why I would want to have an audio 8 is in case I go somewhere that has a mixer and I can’t bring my own.

Audio kontrol 1 does basically the same thing for your setup but cheaper surely?
