NI Multicore Cables
Can anyone clear up for me what i need to purchase to allow connection for 2 turntables and two cdjs and djm600 with the audio 8 when i upgrade to scratch pro.
I can’t be 100% from reading things on various websites.
It appears one cable may onmy be half the setup ? so does that mean i need 8 cables in total ? If so at £24 a pop that aint cheap!

No mate you dont need more mulitcores, not for the CDJs.
Connect your decks up as usual with the multicores (A & B)
Connect your CDJs with the cables to Inputs (C & D) 5/6 & 7/8 and just use normal RCA/Phono cables for the output.
Cus they are CD channels you dont need to switch over to use vinyl so the multicore isnt needed.
One thing to note. Is that the Audio 8 connectors are quite shallow so whatever cables you buy make sure you can either take it back or you are able to slice off a small circular section of the plastic covering so that they fit in firmly or they could fall out.
To be honest its best to buy a really cheapo pair of RCA and bodge them at first.

Yeah ive already had to do that with a few. Will this setup allow me to play my cdjs without having my laptop on though ?
Yeah it will play straight through. You can select Audio Through on the Input Selector on channels C & D (pull down over the Deck Letters in Traktor) and you will be sweet.

Noooooo, i want to be able to play my cdjs without even thinking about turning on the laptop. I thought this was what the multicore cables were for.
Well then you just hook your CDJs to your mixer..?
Or dont you use a mixer?
Audio 8 will only work when USB powered by the laptop so the laptop has to be on.
The mulicores are for using timecode vinyl alongside regular vinyl.
I dont think the Audio 8 has through-put when not powered. Never tried it .

what i wanted was the option to plug everything (2 decks and 2 cdjs) in and have the option of using with timecode through traktor or as standard without turning my laptop on.
Is this possible?
pretty sure you need external power to do thrus without laptop, that’s the way it is with serato
no surely not , is that not the whole idea of the multicore cables ? If not what is the point of them?

The point of the multicore cables is to allow you to play vinyl records when you don’t want to use timecode.
If you want the option of spinning on CD decks and turntables with or without your laptop I’m not really sure what the issue is. Are you going to be turning your computer off midset?
I know what i want to do, which i have stated but here goes again.
I want to have everything routed to the audio 8. Everything meaning 2 x 1210’s and 2 x cdjs. I want to be able to use these with timecode within traktor but also as i would have used them before i had tracktor with normal cds and vinyls. I don’t want to have to change cables to do this and i believe this is the purpose of the multicore cables. However the cables seem to come in mixer sections and look like there seems to be audio 8 sections aswell. What exactly do i need to buy as details seem to differ or arent very comprehensive about the cables.

No there are times when i dont want to have to boot traktor up to be able to spin some proper vinyls or cds.

You have two multicore sets for the turntables. These are plugged into the mixer, the audio8 and the turntables. You have four sets of RCA cables for the CD decks, two for each, one for the CD deck to the Audio8 and one for the Audio8 to the mixer.
All you’ll need to do is set decks in Traktor to Audio Through. This way you can play traditional vinyl (see: not timecode) and regular CDs. Just make sure to route the signals in your preferences to make sure they all go the right way. It might be a good idea to set hotkeys to switch between audio through and internal playback.
I think we’re getting confused at the point you’re asking about turning off your Audio8, cause no, you can’t do that. If everything is plugged into the Audio8 then it needs to be on to process the sound, even if it’s going through from vinyl.
Well, if you aren’t going to boot up Traktor why are you going to have them plugged into the Audio8? I can see the frustration for a home set up, but, well, yeah, if you’re not going to boot Traktor or turn on your computer then you need to run everything directly to your mixer.
No, you cannot play proper vinyl without the multicore cables by selecting audio through. You CAN with CD decks. The Multicore cables have an extra cable that carries the phono signal to the mixer separate from the line signal of the Audio8. CD decks don’t need this.
Yes Moley my friend you are right. I forgot all about the Audio 8s ability to be used as at through-put with the Mulitcores.
Yeah it works fine with no usb connection.

so you dont even have to have the audio 8 connected for the signal to route to the mixer. Meaning no need to have a laptop booted up and no need to be selecting audio thru.
Surely you can use the same concept with cdjs? no?
Hah all knowing my ass, i just had to whip up a multicore to my audio 8 and try it out.
It was with a turntable but the principle remains.
Now doing this without the multicore? I have havent got any RCAs with me to try and the CDJs arent here.
Still think your better off going into the mixer mate.
Where do you get the Audio sections of the multicores from ? can’t find them for sale anywhere. Even NI only have the mixer segments 
thinking about more, it shouldn’t matter what you are passing through that through cable, as long as the cable is plugged into the right level (line/phone) on the mixer for what you are using on the other end.
