NI, Why don’t you make this?
I would never ask for anything again
Wow, not really sure what to say. I guess for a permanent bedroom install it would be okay, but way to big to be practical.

Only one fader?
They should sell it as a modular piece, just like the reloop control… One mixer section (although I agree you could just get a DDM 4000), and separate deck sections. Oh… and allow to chain them using only one usb port as the CDJ’s 2000 (maybe 2 or 3 usb’s though…)
THATS AWESOME.
I don’t like the reloops though… Stacked cue point buttons are the worst idea in the world IMO.
I would buy it if they made a version that was just the side unit with the jog wheel, pitch, that could be chained through ethernet, had an additional row of cue point buttons, and had a browse/load encoder. Sound card with 4 outs in each unit that is easily aggregated naively in traktor might be nice too.
The last thing I want would be a midi mixer that had to use traktor’s internal mixer though.
This is what I was gonna say. I think a modular S4 type system would pretty successful. It’d knock the sc2000 right off the map.
4 deck s4? over kill.
Fixed:
ya i cant believe Ni has not made a modular system yet to tailor the set up to the individual needs and for people that cant afford an S4 to buy it in pieces. slowly i wouldnt mind purchasing just the S4 mixer (edit) with sound card
Fooking this!
hideous.
I agree completely.
I just wonder what the appeal of using the S4/traktor internal mixer is if you are going to separate the components anyway.
my thoughts exactly. I would possibly be interested in a s4 like individual deck module.
would be interesting, especially for those like me who prefer the mixer on one side, the decks on the other.
i think something like that would be really good ![]()
If it were the right price, I’d seriously consider that mixer section.
There are good things to be said for internal mixing as long as your rig is simple. Traktor’s internal mixer sounds good and has so much headroom that it doesn’t really matter what you do as long as the master is set correctly, for one thing. And no matter how worn or dirty the controller gets, it’ll still sound better than a similarly mistreated analog mixer. Plus, it’d be possible to use a really lightweight VST/AU host for post-mixer effects, which is more complicated when you’re using a hardware mixer. And especially if you’re comparing it do a digital mixer, it avoids some needless DAC and ADC stages, which in DJ gear tend to be mediocre.
BTW, don’t learn to hear the difference between sound cards. The differences are very small, but they’ll drive you insane when you start hearing them.
If it were me, I’d move the master and looper sections over to one side and add a few really basic controls for the master clock, MIDI clock send, internal recording, and “input” metering for internal recording over to one side (don’t care which side, though). I’d also ditch the crossfader and offer a rotary option…but I’ve given up on that ever happening unless I just build it, which isn’t going to happen until I get a high-paying job with a lot of free time…and at that point, I’d probably just build a mixer anyway.
If they did that and I decided to stay with Traktor Pro long-term, I’d probably buy one to shove in-between my X1s (on one side) and my Maschine. Then I’d probably bitch about the mixer-controller not having a USB hub built-in. Though they’d hopefully be smart enough to include at least a basic sound card in case people wanted to use it. Manufacturing cost on an Audio 2 can’t be more than $40 anyway, right?
If they made a version of the S4 with those small tweaks and X1s on the sides instead of those deck controls, I’d consider selling my current DJ rig for it, say “screw it,” and start saving up for a pair of M5Gs, a battle mixer, and a nice but simple FOH mixer.
The next generation controller will look like this
