numark mixtrack help please

I am getting into DJing, and I just bought the Numark Mixtrack.

I have a few questions.

Will I be able to listen to the music through my laptop speakers?

Do i NEED an external soundcard?

What will an external soundcard enable me to do?

You will need an external soundcard if you want to cue your tracks for headphone listening!

If just just wanna mess around in traktor without it you can map the output for your laptop souncard!

Cool thanks. I got the numark one- the io?

This will suffice if I want to cue songs right?

Yes it will, i have the same setup, mixtrack and numark dj i/o

Just install the souncard and got to output routing in traktor then map the right outputs.

Output monitor = headphones
Output master = amplifier or speakers

Ok. I have virtual dj pro as well as traktor pro. What do you suggest? I like vdj interface. Does traktor offer anything vdj doesn’t?

Its up to you, Traktor 2 is right around the corner and it looks awsome! So i suggest you start using traktor! Most of the tutorials put up here is for traktor aswell! :wink:

I got a Mixtrack pro last week and am loving it. I lasted 2 days with Virtual DJ before i had to give Traktor a Try. grab the demo of Traktor. Totally worth trying it out. There’s plenty of help on the web setting it up. Even n the Numark page they have instructions for setting it up with Traktor. After a day of messing with Traktor, i got fed up with the half hour time limit on the demo and purchased the Duo version, which is half off till the end of the month.

Traktor just felt more refined to me. I couldn’t stand the VDJ interface after a while and didn’t find a single skin i liked. Also, after comparing the upgrade to pro price, buying Traktor came out to less, even if i upgrade to Traktor Duo 2 in April.
