Pacha in Ibiza cutting top tier djs from their line up

Fair play to them they started Pacha up and all that but really? Come on, man. Maybe try not booking DJs who push such a boring and monotonous sound.

Hakkasan LV is mentioned in the article too. Anyone seen their event listings for this month? Two nights each for Deadmau5, Tiesto and Calvin Harris along with single nights for Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Hardwell and a few others. Yeeaaaah… nothx.

just for thoughts but if you think about it, most djs dont just dj anymore. you have to produce and be (or have) graphic designer, marketing people promoter and all types of other shits and some of these guys have to pay those other people that do the work behind the scene so is it that ridiculous that they ask all that money?
there is a certain level of success you reach where its more about putting in a show than just playing music.

Yeah possibly, particularly the West End and the like!
There’s been a lot of Marbella type bars opening up, which is obviously going to attract a less underground crowd as well. But then Ushuaia has some amazing lineups in amongst the bad ones. Sven Vath, Luciano, Locodice, Maya Jane Coles, Voorn, Reboot, Andrea Oliva and Uner at their opening party to name one!

Supply and demand theory seems relevant here. It’s funny that they would want more money to play less, when the supply of skilled and known DJs / EDM artists in the world has never been greater.

It’s arguable whether or not the demand has risen for them though. If a club needs a few resident DJs and needs to bring in events X times a month (constant demand), it would seem risky to demand more money when there are plenty of skilled and well known alternatives who will happily play for less.

This, basic economics. The new ease of access into the DJ hobby has uncovered some truly talented people who before would never have had a chance. It’s not as easy to be Bigbollocks McSpinnydecks now that some kid in his bedroom can do it better.

Croatia is the new Ibiza anyways.

Well, maybe for Outlook.

They have Hideout and Unknown now as well but it’s far from the new Ibiza at the moment.

+1 …has been for a good few years now. Electric Elephant is a festival we have been wanting to go to for some time now.

I’ve been to Ibiza and I can safely say I would never go again unless it was 100% free.

Basic club goers are Lemming drones now a days. They book these DJs because its a big “name” and they play an hour of anthems. Most of these people just heard of Teisto last year, and just follow the fads.

Thats why some make it seem like the music hasnt evolved.. Some people, stick with what makes them 6 figures and a majority of the public just accepts whats mainstream and shoved down their throats.

Its a sad sad time :disappointed:

There isn’t much going on outside of festivals though is there (music wise I mean)?
I know people that have been to Hideout and said while it was good, it’s become as commercial as anywhere and is a rip off. Also difficult to get hold of…you know, stuff…if that’s your thing.

Personally I think Ibiza is amazing if you stay away from certain places. Where did you stay/go when there, Karlos?

I like it!

Since the big money is to be made in the US, you’ll get an automatic seperation of the money grabbers and the other dj’s.
