4GB RAM is absolutely essential for any type of system in my opinion. I take it you know what you’re doing if you’re to see if your motherboard can take this RAM and also to install it, right?
Intel i3, i5, i7 if you’ve got a strict budget then go for AMD Athlon, FX Series etc. Also you need to change the motherboard I can
recommend some if you like; which also may lead changing your RAM.
If you could recommend a mobo that would be good, I’m okay putting the things together physically but actually matching them so they’re compatible is another thing.
Maybe a Haswell processor? That way you aren’t buying an outdated motherboard too, and you’ll get a little more processing power out of it vs Ivy Bridge.
If you need to replace your motherboard, processor and memory, you’d probably be better off going with one of the bundle deals offered by various companies - this way all the components are already matched and in some cases, pre-assembled (like at overclockers.co.uk)
And Dean, no they won’t. it’s a different socket. The mother boards I listed are Socket 1155 motherboards, and for this processor you need an 1150 Socket.
