I used to have turnables, CDJ’s, Mixer but had to sell everything a few years ago for financial reasons. I am now able to purchase stuff again and am looking to go the Traktor route. I will only be mixing at home, for fun so I don’t need anything too advanced. I mix house/tech house/techno.
I just saw the A&H K2 that is due out next year and it made me second guess getting the S2. Looks like the K2 can act as a mixer too since it has faders.
What are your experiences with the S2? And do you think I should just go with that? And possibly add a K2/X1 later down the road to dedicate to the sample decks if I want to, or to the effects as it looks like the S2 is a little limited as far as choosing what effect to load.
Hi mate, hopefully I can help. I have an s2, its good good. You can choose effects from the s2 so I dont find it limiting, you can also use the djtt mappings for it & they are great for effects. The S2 alone is fantastic. If you after an all in one soundcard & mixer Id say the s2 is the way to go. Dont forget it includes full traktor pro 2 software, I dont know what its competition comes with but I think traktor is the best of the bunch. If you can, go and try it see what you think. I bought mine when I was looking at getting a twitch, I just preferred it. All in I’d say its a good choice & you will be happy with it
I didn’t even mention the jog wheels, they are amazing
Im glad I got the s2, I have 1210’s, the jog wheels respond exactly the same in my tests, it really is amazing. I dont think I could fit an s4 on my desk, the s2 suits me perfectly. You will be happy with it.
You can cycle through effects with shift & the button under the effect nob
Disable the crossfader by clicking the letters next to it on the screen
I am happy with my s2, with the other hardware I have, I wouldnt need an s4.
s2 is great.. moved from an s4 to s2 with an x1.. i can finally move everything in a backpack and still rock a gig like i had my s4.. djtt mappin is awsome for teh s2 and specially now its free..
s2 is so dope. If you work with Traktor, and you want a controller, than you either need to go with the s2 or an s4. I didn’t go with the s4 because of
A. The price tag
B. Its so freakin big
The S2 does exactly what I wanted it too. It feels like a traditional 2 channel mixer. Plus you get the option of using the UBER cool FX decks, something that I haven’t seen in any controller. And also, the option of being able to control the sample features of Traktor from your controller.
And all this fits neatly onto your table, not nudging any of your other gear out of the way. Highly portable. Its sick.
Yes, im posting about the S2 on christmas. That’s how much i like it. LOL
I’ve only had my S2 a couple of days after trying a whole variety of different options. I’ve moved over from CDJs also, and just bought it as a hobby/parties.
I have to say it was the right choice by a long shot! The price is good and you can always add an X1 etc later if you feel you need to. And for a noob like me, I found that having any more knobs and buttons than what I needed for 99% of the time was just annoying as they’d get in the way or I’d turn the wrong thing if I was too busy watching Traktor. The size, weight, build quality and uncluttered layout are all spot on.
Got my S2 on Monday, and recorded my first mix with it last night. I love it, and I haven’t even started messing with the sample decks, or much with looping and the effects. I can’t wait to get familiar with all of it. I was a little flustered wuith the beatgrid the first day, and beatmatched manually. But everything clicked last night and I got the beatgrid sorted out. It’s very easy to do now.
Check out my mix below, and keep in mind that I haven’t touched decks or a mixer in 3 years…
