Post your Loop Recorder Techniques

Hi all,

Given the new Dub FX videos, I wanted to start a thread on loop recorder techniques.

As I think it can be a powerful feature, but I’m still looking for new ways to make it more robust.

I’ll be playing with some techniques and post my findings here.

Mainly use it for recording weird noises created with a micro loop and effects. Like the vid ean did with the x1…

I use it to make my own drum loops from one shots quite a bit.
Also I use it to keep a groove going by recording from the main out, then while it’s playing I can load up my next songs and samples.

I do that with the sample deck. I’ve been playing so much stuff the last few months that doesn’t involve much mixing though that I’ve fallen out of practice. :open_mouth:

Videos please

I really need a footswitch for this or an extra hand. I’ve mainly been looping beats, adding in a dash of sample decks, sprinkling in some effects and eating a nice dub sunday. The footswitch would really help the flailing arms and panicd look on my face as I try to get it all in on time.

i’ve mapped my loop rec button as toggle, set length, hit button and fuck about for x beats

I’m reshowing this one as an example, sorry for those who already saw it (I should really offer something new):
I’m using the loop recorder to add several layers of sounds, then playing with fx on some of those , record that, add the new layer, etc..
At around 4:14 during the break, I record one of the sample on which I apply some fx too, remove the layer, and pull it back later at around 5:43

could your direct me to these? I dont think I have come across them yet and love to have a look.

Thanks so much!

So I finally got my sample deck mapped out on my APC80.
Got the Loop Recorder hooked up with a Boss Footswitch.

So far…I have managed to Loop Record my scratching and have that play back instantly and also mapped out a button to copy to a sample deck slot. Need to work out the bugs and do final tweaks…but finally using TSP2 to its full potential.

WOOOOOT!

So my technique so far is to do a scratch fill, record and loop it back…add to it with a couple of sample stabs using overdub and then popping it into the sample slot.

Then I can Effect it with the Beatmasher and RingModulator.

Much fun!

Need to work on how to scratch the samples…

What footswitch ? do you think YAMAHA FC5 SUSTAIN PEDAL will be ok 4 the loop rec ?

APC80 ?! fuc*ing awesome

The Boss FS5U only costs a little more and it built like a tank.

Thanks, is necessary a particular mapping to record ( by loop rec ) using it ?

Nope, just plug it in and it’ll work.

nice photojojo.

i’ve been working on something as well. mainly just cuepoint juggling some beats to form my own drum loop samples.

i’ve also been working on a maschine and traktor set. so far so good. i’ll post more findings as i get more solid ideas.
