So I’ve been listening to a chunk of psy-trance, and getting encouraged by a few people, who want to hear it more, to spin it. Was wondering if you guys could point me at some labels and artists that are really good, so I can get a start. I figure I’ll be getting most stuff off of Beatport cause it’s easier to find, and eMusic doesn’t categorize their music very well.
I’ve been getting a lot of comments of implementing more psytrance into my sets cause it could fit. And there’s a HUGE psytrance scene around, whereas what I do is kinda limited.
A Team
Astrix
Audiopathik
Black and White
EXAILE - seriously, can’t recommend these enough!
Eskimo - again, look this guy up first!
Frenessy
Infected Mushroom
Slider
Void
and also check out ‘megaband’, which is Eskimo and Void together. Awful name, but amazing music! www.themegaband.com
lol, ToyPsy! Never heard it called that before - it is quite fun though so very apt, how about Broken Toy, Psysex or X-Noise?
Scorb are VERY good, nasty dark stuff that it is… Paraforce, Noise Gust & E.V.P are also worth a listen if you like that direction
The best site is the best I’ve found for finding new Psy is http://www.psyshop.com/ Don’t think it does downloads but it’s a good hub to find out what you’re looking for when you go to other sites like beatport or trackitdown
I have been mixing psytrance for a couple months now- my psytrance knowledge is next to nill lol. I have just been diving though heaps of artists trying to find ones i like.
Anyway heres some artists who i have come across that i dont mind-
Astrix
Dali
Killer Buds
Infected Mushroom
Space Tribe
Psywalker
Star X
Spinal Chord
Dyamo
I think Nemo is the go to man when it comes to psytrance - leech his brain!
On another note- i was thinking today i might try mixing Psytrance and Dubstep together to see what i come up with, wish me luck !
AMD - Bigfish, a very good album from 2007.
Check out Twisted Records as well, there are some golden releases, Prometheus newest one is really cool imo. I know I might be shot for it, but KoxBox - UTurn was really good as well, if you can come over the fact that KoxBox released a “FullOn” record, but it is really worth checking. Also make sure to check out Eat Static’s De-Classified!! PsyDB: Goa & psytrance database Wizzy Noise is well worth Checking out as well.
Keep in mind, I like my psy less cheesy and melodic. I like it hard and spanky!
Shit, I need to make this mix tonight I think I find mixing Psy Hard these days though, with all the basslines and so on…
Thanks a lot guys, this looks like it’ll be a good start. I will give it all a listen when I get home.
My girl has a friend who goes to PsyTrance raves in the city and knows the guys who run them. I want to put together a mix for them to see if I can grab myself a gig and get a little push in a new direction.
I will soon find out what Nemo means by cheesy psytrance and all. My main concern is the style of kick drum, cause that’s what I’m so particular about. But, well, worst case I just layer my own sounds underneath it.
So that Scorb track is just what I’m looking for. Progressing sounds, HUGE kick drums, fast, powerful… big breaks and little breaks, great intro… yeah, that’s it.
The ESD track is a little simplistic for my tastes, but not bad. I guess the rhythm is just not for me. Needs something bigger, but the synth lines are enjoyable, until around 6:39 and then it’s just the right kinda energy for me. Maybe a nice long buildup mix or something.
Koxbox (what a name) is another good one too, for me. Just a little repetitive, but that’s the beast of EDM, right?
I see why you considered that Infected Mushroom track cheese. I’ve tried a few other songs by them and it just doesn’t have the same energy or power of that Scorb track. I totally see where you’re coming from. That’s not a knock on IM… just a taste thing, in the end.
Why is that DJ Dali track so cheese? I mean, she totally controls a filter sweep by waving her hands in the air and proceeds to dance around the stage… and makes some REALLY funny faces when playing with what I think is a phaser… meh… I think I see where you’re coming from, Nemo.
I want that dark stuff that just pounds you in the face, but does more than what I’m able to get out of the stuff I’m spinning now.
