Q: preparation on the go (android)

Q: preparation on the go (android)

Hi there,

I have been searching the Internet for a while to find an app on android that can help me prepare my tracks on the go (on my phone/tablet) something that can do what trainspotter and rekordbox do when it comes to costumized tags unfortunately the search resulted in nothing. Also I thought it was not possible to set cue points and loops in traktor without using traktor but apparently it’s possible since the latest update of mixed in key does it automatically so since that update I was wondering if that also can be possible using android phone/tablet just like again rekordbox.

The reason why I want to work on my tracks on android is that my music library traktor settings etc. are all on my external powered Hdd and it’s always impossible to find more than one electrical plug in best case scenario at the places I spend most of the time at.

If anyone out there have any ideas workarounds or suggestions please do share it with me as I got loads of tracks to prepare before an upcoming events.

Thank you in advance!

As far as I know there are no such apps for android.

Why don’t you just take an extension lead with you??

or a power strip?

Same thing, we call them extension leads in the UK!

Hey guys thank you for the replies
I am really wondering how come no one ever thought of such a solution before for traktor djs especially that everything is digital Nowadays and there is an app like rekordbox on smartphones and tablets that does the job it would save time and it would be extremely convenient and portable when you don’t have a lot of time to spare and always on the go (2 jobs and a family in my case)

I have tried the options you guys suggested but in most of the situations there is no electricity outlets in first place the laptop can survive but the powered Hdd won’t be accessible
Any ideas on how I can workaround this situation? I have tried copying some of my music folders to my laptop (while my goal is to prep iTunes smart playlists) but that’s not creating a solid flow since I have to run another copy of traktor and once done preparing returning the tracks back to its original paths on the Hdd With smart playlists that’s a nightmare

My only challenge in brief is my powered hdd I guess
Any ideas?

Rekordbox for Android?

buy an ipad?

rekordbox for android?? thats what i use

Yeah tekki i have it on my phone and tablet but unfortunately it either doesnt have the option of “my costume tags” or am not aware of it although i tried searching for it.

Correct me if am wrong, but i dont think the cue points and beat grids are the same as used by traktor.
other than that imo the pc/tablet/phone apps are amazing i just wish there was an alternative for traktor.

currently not an option but might be in near future. does the traktor dj app gives you all the options one needs to prepare on the go and sync seamlessly to traktor pro? also is there a specific model/ios version required ofr this task? thanks in advance!

yeah am using it but correct me if am wrong aren’t the cue points/beat grids not compatible with traktor’s?
I didnt get enough time to try out that part by myself as i have been really away from my laptop for the past few days, therefore, looking for a solution that fits my situation.

If the problem is teh powered HDD, why not get a USB HDD?

Does it work on iPod Touch (cheap)

i have traktor DJ and at one point yes it synced perfectly via dropbox and you could easily work tracks on the go, this feature became broken at one of the later iOS releases, and i honestly dont know if they ever fixed it. My entire collection is prepped , and i prep every new track as soon as i import it, so i ended up not going back to try it out. but at one point it was beautiful for traktor prep, can anyone confirm if they ever fixed the sync over dropbox feature?

i read a long while ago that powered ones are better in terms of performance as they are externally powered and wont suck the juice off your laptop, however this popped an interesting question in my head are there any hybrid HDD’s that can be powered with a plug and still be used without one? that would solve the whole thing for me! as everything i have is organized in my current HDD and its an accumulated work of few years so it would be easier to do a one time transfer to a “hybrid” HDD (which will become my main on the go and on stage HDD) if they ever exist while keeping the other for backup at home.

i just checked the apple app store for traktor DJ and it seems like it does on a specific generation and operating systems as a minimum requirement which is as following:
Requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
here is a link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/traktor-dj-for-iphone/id625335999?mt=8

earlier today i read somewhere in the NI forums that they are apparently working on fixing it, but what can be confirmed from the app page is that the function is removed “Please note: The Metadata sync feature has been removed from TRAKTOR PRO 2. It’s still possible though, to sync metadata between two instances of TRAKTOR DJ.”

here is a link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/traktor-dj-for-iphone/id625335999?mt=8

so i think this basically tells us there isnt really much for mobile track prep for traktor…

What if the tracks were prepared using traktor dj then transferred back again to your pc using itunes and/or any other software?, wont it maintain the metadata in the file itself which then cab be read by traktor pro on your laptop?

if you still got the app it would be soo kind of you or anyone one out there that can try and tell us the results as i dont own any apple products but if this works i would definitely consider one!

let me see what i can do… give a day or 2

I got to borrow an iphone and try out traktor dj unfortunately, traktor dj does not save cue points in the track thus the meta data sync function (currently disabled) was introduced in both versions of the software pro and dj

However this is still good news for me as long as NI are working on fixing it!

yah.. id feel better if someone else was fixing it… its been broken a LONG time
