when an action is quantized it lines input key strokes up to a tempo grid, because human hands will never be 100% accurate at playing a note on time over and over again.
say you were to play a high hat every 1/16 note for instance. when input quantize is activated in Ableton any note played will fall directly on the selected quantize parameter rather than playing exactly as keyed, which would have a more natural waver. patterns entered without quantize can also be quantized after the fact.
quantize works the same in Traktor but is limited to 1/4 notes AFAIK. meaning that if you attempt to press play on a track a little early or a little off the beat it will automatically adjust your timing.
…Well, it’s supposed to. Or maybe it does, but just not for me. What’s up with this? Anyone have a solution to starting a track in sync with the master track in Traktor Pro?
Actually playing TPro now, snap is off, quantize is off and the deck is synced to the master clock - whenever i hit play it starts in time to the music.
I noticed this Yesterday as well… I had a friend come over with his CDJ-1000 mk3s to test Scratch Pro. This happened all over again and again. It was so frustrating.
Hmm… maybe I don’t understand how Master works in TPro. The first deck playing is obviously set to Master… but when I look at what seems to be the Global Master/Tempo/Phase panel all controls are gray’d out and I have no ability to tap or anything. Could I be missing a setting (because I have Traktor Scratch as well)? It makes sense that with Traktor Scratch that the CDJs have control over tempo… I’d think phase could be controlled in Traktor, but maybe not?
How often have you used Traktor Pro Scratch? I just used this for the first time last night. Works well unless you’re scratching with the the play button off… which I don’t do much anyhow.
When the deck is set to master I think it overrides the master clock, making that deck the master clock. There should be three settings, though… External, Tap and Auto. I think Auto makes it read out with the mater deck, and Tap lets you use that as the master clock and set everything to it. I don’t know if external is for an external clock or for one of the four decks…
That’s how I understood it too, so I’m going to go and double check all my clock related settings tonight and see if there’s anything strange going on. If BentoSan says it can be done, it can. I probably am using the wrong key mappings or have missed a setting somewhere related to clock.
Actually this was the first time I used Traktor Scratch Pro… I used the previous version of scratch though… My 1200s are boxed since I bought the VCI-100.
I was actually planning on getting a DJM-400 and CDJ-400s but gave the VCI-100 another chance.
Yesterday I plugged the CDJ-1000s to my Audio8. I only had to fire-up Traktor, and choose inputs under Preferences… and the CDJs were working almost flawlessly. For some strange reason cueing was not possible, FX did not work at all (yes I turned them on, and chose the bank) and a few other issues that arouse.
Afterwards… I plugged my VCI-100, and cueing, FX were still not working.
I re-loaded Ean’s .tsi but still could not cue, or have the FX to work.
I will double check settings, etc later tonight.. just in case I have changed something by mistake and didn’t notice.
I didn’t try any FX last night. I’ll try it again and see if it works. I’ll also have my roommate run through everything to make sure it’s working. He uses CDJs exclusively… I only know the basic stuff.
