Rant: Gear Choices, Sound Quality, and the Free Market

If anyone should elaborate here, it’s you mate. Wtf were you even going on about in that post?

Back on topic (wtf was that tangent for?) …

I supply sound systems for events and have found that the right type of mixer side of stage to sub mix sources can have a massive positive effect on the sound, and gives you much better over all control of what’s going on.

I personally use an original A&H 464 (with master faders not knobs), and running Pioneer mixers and other controllers through this before my Nexo PA makes all of the difference. I also keep a close eye on how red the mixer/controller is getting and am quite comfortable telling whoever the DJ is to “back off the gains a bit” so that I can give them “more from over here”, which is the right way to do it.

And … I’m a DJ who cares about sound and seem to have no trouble pulling good sound from any of my available options: S4mk2, TA6, TA10, Babyface, Fireface UC, DJM850, DB2, Z1 …

Great post!

Not sure I agree with your police work there!
