recommend me a laptop PC UK

recommend me a laptop PC UK

Hi

I’ve just bought a Reloop Digital Jockey 2.

I’m getting into Traktor Pro

I’m using it on my PC but I’m looking to get a laptop.

Any recommended?

I checked out my local retail park.

Some of the cheaper models had pretty sticky controller pads.
and only 3 usb ports

I’m guessing i need

  • processor 2 ghz
  • ram 2 gig
  • 3 or 4 usb ports (4 is quite rare)
  • can see the screen from different angles
  • looks a bit cool :sunglasses:
  • battery life?
  • PC
  • windows 7

what kind of things should i be looking for . some manufacturers have really different quality between models. I’m thinking HP , sony , toshiba. but i saw an alright packard bell (but that’s not a make I’d trust) and lots of people say dell is good.

any input welcome

I got this at BestBuy for $599 US.

It has everything you need. 4 USB, 500GB, 4GB RAM, Express Card, HDMI, 6 hour battery!

I’m using it with a NI Audio DJ 2 and it’s rock solid.

Stay away from Dell, mine has latency spikes which rapes Traktor, I know other models dont have this problem but I have also found the build quality and customer service to be poor!

i checked it out on youtube it looks good, and good spec. is it the same model in the Uk i couldn’t find one in UK. I might contact toshiba or something.

any other suggestions welcome

Wait, where is Lance to parade the “Get a Mac!” post?!

(just messing with you dude lol, I own one too)

so far I’m escaping the MAC attack  :sunglasses:

…so, what what Laptops have people got, with what features on them?

personally, I’ve owned Asus (awesome brand, great feature to price ratio), Thinkpad (tankish, sturdy, gets the job done), and MSI (another good brand, but my personal preference leans towards Asus for their support).

Currently I own a MacBook Pro, but if I were to pickup a PC laptop today, I would go with the Asus N61Jv.

If you really want a nice deal, and the same product, buy ODM instead of OEM, and buy from rjtech.com which sells the same laptops which Dell and HP do, just without the added price from the OS, warranty, bloatware, etc.

Get a Mac :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though had good results from Dell ( older models new ones have bad latency issues ) Toshiba, Msi, Asus.

But i thought fuck it and got a Mac ant looked back :sunglasses:

thanks for input, Its good to get suggestions on this sort of thing

If i buy a laptop from the USA I don’t think I’ll get a UK warranty. but what this ODM OEM thing? are there UK shops that do this?

.. @everyone..keep the suggestions coming

Stay away from a Dell like its girl with an adams apple.

Nothing but trouble. Dont be fooled by all the bells and whistles and free cameras and printers and shit.

If you want to spend all your life tweaking and suspending services rather than just DJing then by all means by a Dell.

Im a Mac guy so i cant really recommend a good PC but i can warn you about a bad one and its Dell.

For every person that says “well i use a Dell and its fine” there are 97 million people that cannot get rid of spikes and pops.

If nobody bought Dells id be happy.

cheers

I’ll avoid Dell

Dells are fat pieces of shit from my experience. In all my years troubleshooting systems, Dell laptops have the poorest thermal engineering it’s mind blowing, like Core i7 MacBook Pro’s getting hot enough to burn your nuts off.

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer, they include Dell/Alienware, HP/Compaq, Sony, etc. ODM is Original Design Manufacturer, and they are the ones who actually MAKE the laptop, sell them in bulk to the OEM, and the OEM stamps their brand, and packages it to the consumer, usually at a mark up which is significant.

You can have a look on this one

Iam one of those dell owners and regret i did not send it back in time . So i also bought a mac and loving it .Just use my dell for dowmloading music and websurfing mac is for dj only .

My brother bought a nice Dell laptop. He says it’s great for making grilled cheese sandwiches, and keeping papers from blowing around the room while the fans on.

I think he mentioned something about it functioning as a computer…I dunno, doesn’t happen that often so it ain’t worth mentioning lol.

Any dual core will fully handle Traktor Scratch (i have 1,4 Ghz old mobile pentium and traktor is running smoothly  with no dropouts, MIDI only).

Hp 5310m
HP dm3
HP envy (made for Djing, you can get traktor scratch duo bundled with it )

Asus U/UL/UX series (long battery, very stylish, portable, and the ULV cpus are still enough powerfull to run any Dj software ). Try to find the new ones with Core i3/5 CPUs wich are much faster than C2D, even with lower speed.

Or get a MAC

Btw, audio dropouts are based on drivers… i’ve found out that WDM drivers do the job perfectly

And about a 100 other things as well.

Mainly services running in the background.

Often USB related.

There are many layers to the dropout onion.

cheers, some good looking machines, i’m getting a better idea of what i’m looking for.

I’ve been checking those suggestions on youtube reviews

Is a 13 inch screen big enough to use traktor pro?
or am i going to be DJ Squinty :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going to get a

HP DV6 intel machine

I’ll let you know how it goes
