Recommendations on power during a production excursion to Europe

Hi all.

I’ll be doing a 4-week production excursion to France soon. I’m currently planning how my portable studio setup will work and have various thoughts on how to approach the power & European plug issue.

Fortunately all my powered devices have voltage switched power adapters, so voltage levels will not be a major issue. The question I have is what’s the best way to power all my devices?

It seems to me I have two choices:

  1. Get a 3-prong to European 2-pin adapter for my power strip, then plug my US-style adapters in as I would at home.

or

  1. Get a European power strip and use Euro-prong adapters on each of my power sources.

Does anyone have any experience with this and want to share?

I just moved to Europe from Seattle so I’ve been dealing with this. My vote would be for number 2, mainly because most U.S. Power strips only take 120v, especially if they have any form of surge protector. We got a couple 12 packs of these for cheap from Amazon, works great if your power supplies are switching:

You can find euro power strips for really cheap once you land, typically from 5 to 10€.
